Groping, when used in a sexual form, is touching another person in a sexual way. Areas of the body most frequently groped include buttocks, breasts, testicles and thighs. When done without permission or against the will of another person, this can be considered a form of sexual abuse.
On public transportation
Incidents of groping on mass transit such as trains and buses are widespread in Japan where suburban trains are often crowded, so that close physical contact is unavoidable. Men or women may use this to their advantage when committing groping. The Mass Transit circuit in Japan and in specific other densly populated areas are now taking steps to prevent such incidents from occuring. Some trains operators have introduced women-only/men-only cars (Josei Sen'yō Sharyō) to help combat the problem.
There are some magazines and websites dedicated to groping men and women in trains, where the perpetrators discuss their favorite pastime and share experiences. Groping is a somewhat popular fetish in Japanese pornography.
