Patrick Joseph Kenny (born May 17, 1978 in Halifax, West Yorkshire) is an Irish football player, who currently plays as a goalkeeper for Sheffield United.

Club career

Starting his career at Bradford Park Avenue, he left to join Bury the following season.

In 2002, after making 145 appearances in league and cup competitions, he left to join Sheffield United. At United, he has become first choice goalie, making over 150 appearances in league and cup competitions.

Paddy played every minute of United's promotion campaign to the Premiership in 2005/06.

Paddy Kenny was voted best league goalkeeper in the 2005-06 season saving 4 out of 5 penalties which helped Sheffield United to promotion.

International career

Although born in England, he qualifies to play for Ireland as both his parents are of Irish descent.

Currently Ireland no.2, Paddy has six caps for the Republic of Ireland.

Although a slight thigh strain has forced him to withdraw from the Euro 2008 qualifier with Germany in Stuttgart, he is expected to play in the next qualifying game against the Czech Republic in October due to an abdominal injury preventing the appearance of Given.

Personal life

In November 2006, despite being barred by manager Neil Warnock, Paddy went for a night on the town in Halifax in which he was involved in an drunken brawl in a curry shop with a former friend, who admitted to having an affair with Paddy's wife. Kenny ended up having his eyebrow bitten off and required 12 stitches.

Paddy and his wife Karen are separated after it was revealed that she had affairs with two of Paddy's friends.
