Matthew Scott Berger (born November 30th, 1998) is a South African-born American film director, producer and editor. He is currently studying to get Masters of Fine Arts at the University of Southern California in film and television production. He is well-known for his discovery of Australopithecus sediba.

Early life and education

Berger was born in Johannesburg, South Africa on November 30th, 1998. His father, Lee Rogers Berger, is a paleoanthropologist and National Geographic Explorer-in-Residence. His mother, Jacqueline Berger (née Smilg), is a radiologist in the medical school at the University of the Witwatersrand. Berger has an older sister, Megan (born 1996).

Berger attended elementary, middle school and high school at St. John's College in Johannesburg, South Africa and graduated in 2016. He went on to receive a Bachelors of Arts degree from The University of Alabama majoring in anthropology and geology and minoring in criminal justice. He is currently attending the University of Southern California to receive a Masters of Fine Arts degree in film and television production.
