Overview & Programming
Main article: List of programmes broadcast by MBC 4This article needs to be updated. Please help update this article to reflect recent events or newly available information. (July 2022) |
Popular in the region for showing the latest in western entertainment the channel shows everything from science fiction programs such as Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The X-Files and Charmed to sitcoms like Friends and Malcolm in The Middle. All of the programs are translated to Arabic with the exception of the news shows which air live. The channel shows everything from Dramedy programs, such as Las Vegas and Alias, to sitcoms like According to Jim and Living With Fran.
In addition to showing well-liked television shows. MBC 4 also airs talk shows such as The Oprah Winfrey Show and Dr. Phil. In the morning hours viewers will usually find American news shows such as Up to the Minute and ABC World News Now, as well as World News with Charles Gibson and CBS Evening News.
MBC 4 is also well-know for being the only channel in the Middle East to broadcast Days of Our Lives. The soap has since gained wide popularity in the region. All of the programs are subtitled to Arabic. MBC 4 is now broadcasting the popular American television series Grey's Anatomy and Desperate Housewives .
Unlike its sister channel MBC Action, which attracts young male adults with action and thriller genre, MBC 4 features more dramatic and reality perspectives and attracts women viewership. However, the women viewership trend is disputed in recent transmissions. It is subtitled in Arabic language with exception of news segments. Due to screening wide variety television shows, MBC 4 focuses on reality shows, K-dramas, Turkish and Latin dramas dubbed in Arabic, Western dramas, and infotainment shows. MBC 4 is now broadcasting the popular American television series Grey's Anatomy and Desperate Housewives . MBC 4 is aimed mostly at female audiences, unlike its sister channel MBC Action. It is owned by the Saudi Arabian businessman Waleed Al Ibrahim.
MBC 4 started airing Nickelodeon & TeenNick shows including Victorious, iCarly, Sam and Cat, The Thundermans and Drake & Josh following the closure of Nickelodeon Arabia & MTV Middle East in 2011.
MBC 4 is extremely popular in the Middle East and North Africa for showing the latest Western shows, such as Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Charmed, to sitcoms like Friends and Malcolm in the Middle, Days of Our Lives, Grey's Anatomy and Desperate Housewives. The downside of this all is that MBC 2, MBC 3, MBC 4, MBC Action, and MBC Max all show year-old movies and TV programs; most of them are re-runs and they all are edited: taking out all drug use, sexual content, and to cut it down to its time frame. It is one of the many spun off channels from the Middle East Broadcasting Center (MBC). Before this channel was launched, all its shows were formerly on Channel 2. However, a few years after launching Channel 2, now known as MBC 2, all programs except for the movies were separated into MBC 4, so that MBC 2 is now solely a 24-hour film channel. In spite of this separation, MBC 4 did later broadcast its own selection of films, although only two films weekly at most, and the films are usually of the romantic genre. The Turkish and Pakistani television shows are dubbed in Syrian Arabic. Before this channel was launched, all its shows were broadcast on MBC 2. However, a few years after launching MBC 2, all programs except for movies were separated into MBC 4, so that MBC 2 will only show movies. MBC has announced that MBC 4 will broadcast the popular American television series Grey's Anatomy in April, and has announced that it will broadcast Desperate Housewives soon. The show is expected to be MBC 4's coup of 2007.
Notable Arabic shows include Al Anisa Farah, Madd Wa Jazr, Qawa'ed Al Talaq Al 45, Fatma, Oghneyat Hob, Ba’at Al Ward, Khareef al Hob and Nesa'a Ha'erat.
Among the titles in the latest MBC4 Nickelodeon deal are Fred: The Show‚ played by Lucas Cruickshank.
New seasons of much-love Nickelodeon programmes iCarly and Victorious will also hit screens across the region as part of the deal.
Nickelodeon content will continue to air on MBC4.
MBC 4 displays American series, like Angel, Friends, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and others all translated to Arabic. It also shows daily news from CBS, American programs like The Oprah Winfrey Show, and many more.
The channel mostly broadcasts American Hollywood movies but it also seldom features British, Canadian, French, Indian, Chinese and other foreign films. MBC 4 has managed to negotiate long-term deals with the top Hollywood studios, securing first-run right and ensuring a steady flow of the top box-office movies.
The channel largely targets the Arabic audience, especially young adults, having an important popularity among Arab viewers.
MBC 4 offers an impressive line-up of programs up to 3 months before any other channel. The line-up will include the new dubbed Turkish soap 'Mirna Wa Khalil' starring actor Kivanc Tatlitug, who has become an iconic male figure in the Middle East after the huge success of 'Noor' series in which he played the role of "Muhannad". Before this channel was launched, all its shows were broadcast on MBC 2. However, a few years after launching MBC 2, all programs except for movies were separated into MBC 4, so that MBC 2 will only show movies.
Since late 2011, MBC 4 begun airing new Western series in a "day-and-date" strategy, aiming to provide viewers in the MENA region with fresh content, less than a week after their latest episode's premiere in the United States. These series include: The Good Wife, Vampire Diaries, Ringer, The Secret Circle, 90210, and Pretty Little Liars.
The channel also broadcasts MBC 4 shows, all subtitled in-house in Arabic, such as The Sparticle Mystery, Lizzie McGuire, That's So Raven, Hannah Montana, Lassie, The Latest Buzz, Wizards of Waverly Place, Holly's Heroes and the Power Rangers, and many others.
