Arevis (Template:Lang-hy) is a village in the Sisian Municipality of the Syunik Province in Armenia. The village was known as Arafsa or Aravsa until 1968 when the original name was changed by the Supreme Soviet of the Armenian Soviet Socialist Republic
Demographics
There were 19 Azerbaijanis living in the village in 1831, 169 in 1873, 148 in 1886, 123 in 1897, 168 in 1908 and 300 Azerbaijanis in 1914. The local Azerbaijanis were forcefully deported in the end of 1917. They could only return to the village when the Soviet government was established. The number of Azerbaijanis living in the village were 151 in 1922 and 225 in 1931. The Azerbaijani population of the village was completely deported in November 1988 on the eve of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
Currently, Arevis is populated entirely by Armenians. The Statistical Committee of Armenia reported its population as 140 in 2010, up from 102 at the 2001 census.
