Canada is a constitutional monarchy which shares its sovereign with the United Kingdom and the other Commonwealth Realms. As such, every British sovereign since Victoria has also been Sovereign of Canada, although Elizabeth II was the first monarch to be separately proclaimed as Queen of Canada (in the Royal Style and Titles Act of 1953).
