Supriya Karnik is an Indian television actress and character actor in the Hindi film industry. Karnik is especially known for her negative roles. She has also appeared in comedy roles in superhit Hindi films Muzse Shaadi Karogi, Welcome and Welcome Back.
In 1996, Karnik worked with Marathi actor Ramesh Bhatkar in the Marathi TV serial Tisra Dola. At that time this serial was aired on Doordarshan channel.
Personal life
Supriya Karnik started working at a very young age. Karnik, who had just passed the 10th standard, took lessons from children younger than her, worked in some shops, worked as a typewriter, stock market, immovable property market, etc.
Karnik then went to Saudi Arabia. There she wore a veil and worked as an air beauty in the airline company there. But in a short period of time, her mind got lost in that work. Finally Karnik returned to India and started working here. From 1992 she turned to acting.
In between, Karnik's love affairs were matched on two occasions. But both times she was deeply hurt by her partner's infidelity and decided to remain celibate till the end. Along with acting, she focused her attention on spirituality. Now she also gives spiritual lessons to the younger generation from time to time.
Karnik was offered the role of Indira Gandhi in the Hindi film Main Mulayam Singh Yadav by director Suvendu Raj Ghosh. To do justice to this role, she began reading writings on Indira Gandhi as well as studying her tapes.
Karnik was pleasantly surprised when she was offered the role. Giving reasons for this, she says,
I don't follow politics, but I was fascinated by two women politicians – Indira Gandhi and Margaret Thatcher. When director Suvendu Raj Ghosh offered me the role of Indiraji, I was amazed, "Really… are you sure? I doubt she and I have anything in common" . But his faith was firm. So then, I read the writings on them and watched videos to study their ethos.
