Use of Mastriano's book as a source?

There are complaints about the accuracy of Mastriano's book, including the description of the photograph on the dust jacket and thirty-five citations that are believed to be fraudulent. The work in question, Alvin York: A New Biography of the Hero of the Argonne may not be a reliable source and should probably not be cited in this article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.185.158.58 (talk) 17:04, 20 March 2021 (UTC)

The University Press of Kentucky confirmed the factual-errors reported in Mastriano's book. Therefore, it is not a reliable source and should not be cited in this article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jamespgj (talkcontribs) 18:36, 13 September 2021 (UTC)

„Gathering 35 machine guns“

This sounds like York and his men fought against a position with 35 machine guns. Of course they didn‘t. They fought against one machine gun nest, which is heroic enough. Pls read up on the topic, I find such exaggerations to be quite annoying. Here‘s his Medal of Honor citation:

„After his platoon suffered heavy casualties and 3 other noncommissioned officers had become casualties, Cpl. York assumed command. Fearlessly leading seven men, he charged with great daring a machine gun nest which was pouring deadly and incessant fire upon his platoon. In this heroic feat the machine gun nest was taken, together with 4 officers and 128 men and several guns.“

“…a machine gun nest…“ Not 35 machine guns. 2A01:598:A122:DFA1:246A:F660:660E:598 (talk) 18:17, 24 May 2023 (UTC)
