Tihama Region is one of the six regions in Yemen that is expected to be established in the upcoming constitution, becoming an autonomous federal self-governing region in western Yemen. The Tihama Region comprises four Yemeni governorates: Al Hudaydah, Raymah, Al Mahwit, and Hajjah, with its capital being Al Hudaydah.
Etymology
Tihama is named after its intense heat and calm winds. Tahama means extreme heat and calmness of the wind. It is said that taham al-har refers to extreme heat, and it is also said to be named after the change in its air. Taham ad-dahn means a change in its smell.
