A Mouse in the House is a 1947 cartoon directed by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera and produced by Fred Quimby. It was animated by Kenneth Muse, Ed Barge, Richard Bickenbach and Don Patterson, and was released to theatres on August 30, 1947.
Plot
Mammy-Two-Shoes wraps an alarm clock, finds out that a mouse ate bread, food in the refrigerator, and a chocolate cake. She is furious and went straight ahead to two cats Tom and Butch, doing nothing but eating fresh cream. Mammy warns them about a mouse. She told them that minus one cat and keeps the cat that catches the mouse. They start the search and Jerry joins them too, until Tom and Butch find Jerry on the floor. They started to catch him but instead tied themselves together. They ran after each other until Jerry stops them to hit Butch's foot. Butch screams and notices he's got the wrong foot. He slams it on the floor and grabs the right foot, screaming. The chase went on and Tom and Butch grab Jerry together, agree to duel as they noticed guns. Tom tries to shoot Butch but instead he finds out it's "Ajax Novelty Gun." Butch chases Tom, until the wall, he shoots Tom on top of the head. The chase still continued and Tom and Butch slam the door to cook Jerry in the oven. Jerry sneaks out and lites out a match and drops it in the oven. Tom and Butch look inside and it went BOOM! They both look at the camera in blackface. The chase continues and Jerry hides so Tom or Butch won't find him. He looks around to make sure that no one is after him. He sneaks out but Tom and Butch grab him, Jerry pops out and Butch grabs Jerry. They both start fighting and Jerry rings the bell. Tom drinks and spits and Jerry whispers at his ear. He then comes to Butch, also whispering to his ear. They started fighting again and Jerry covers his eyes to choose a cat to be catched with. He chosed Butch and Tom ends up walking away with a frown face. He sneaks on Butch and takes Jerry away. He runs to Tom to make sure he has Jerry. Jerry lifts Tom up so he can walk, making Butch believe he can move his legs without walking, only to reveal it was Jerry lifting Tom up. Butch grabs him and Tom runs to the kitchen to disguise himself as the maid. Butch hurries to Tom and ends up getting banged. Butch runs to disguise himself as the maid. Tom hurries to him and ends up getting banged. Butch runs away and ends up getting hit to the floor. Jerry noticed this and runs away. Tom and Butch awake to find Jerry, instead find Mammy-Two-Shoes, walking down the stairs. As Mammy checks the door, Tom and Butch slap her rear end. She cries and Tom and Butch find out and ran away with fright. Mammy-Two-Shoes was furious and beats up the two cats. Jerry was pleased at this and walks, until he approaches to the maid. Jerry walks away, running away shutting the door.
Notes
After Jerry drops the match in the oven, Tom and Butch are shown in blackface. This scene has been deleted at some versions of the cartoon.
