• 2024 United States port strike
  • Over 45,000 dockworkers of the International Longshoremen's Association operating at thirty-six United States ports, primarily along the East Coast and the Gulf Coast, begin a labor strike, following the failure of the ports to reach a deal for worker compensation and a ban on automation. (AP)
  • A dump truck driver drives towards picketing workers at the Port of Baltimore, leading to workers dragging the driver out of the truck. The driver later stated that he had been instructed by local police to commence with pickup operations despite the line. (CNN)

• 2024 Atlantic hurricane season
  • The death toll from Hurricane Helene passes 160, with the plurality of fatalities occuring in North Carolina, making it the second-deadliest hurricane to strike the United States in fifty years, behind only Hurricane Katrina. (CNN)
