Speedy deletion nomination of User:Onpointmarketing/sandbox

A tag has been placed on your user page, User:Onpointmarketing/sandbox, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Misplaced Pages. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be advertising which only promotes or publicises someone or something. Promotional editing of any kind is not permitted, whether it be promotion of a person, company, product, group, service, belief, or anything else. This is a violation of our policies regarding acceptable use of user pages — user pages are intended for active editors of Misplaced Pages to communicate with one another as part of the process of creating encyclopedic content, and should not be mistaken for free webhosting resources or advertising space. Please read the guidelines on spam, the guidelines on user pages, and, especially, our FAQ for Organizations.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Misplaced Pages's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. —C.Fred (talk) 14:17, 18 October 2024 (UTC)

Block notice

Your account has been indefinitely blocked from editing because it has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Misplaced Pages. Also, your username gives the impression that the account represents a business, organisation, group, or web site, which is against the username policy.

If you intend to make useful contributions instead of promoting your business or organization, you may request unblock and a username change. In your reasons, you must follow all these steps:

  1. Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the paid-contribution disclosure requirement; and
  2. Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked; and
  3. Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked; and
  4. Provide a new username.

To do this, insert the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked.

Please note that the new username you choose cannot already be taken and in use by another account. You can search to see if the username you'd like to choose is available. If the search returns that no global account with that username exists, that means it is still available.

Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks, you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page.

Hi Deb. I am new to this, just made a Misplaced Pages page recently. I work for a company called onPoint. We wanted to start a Misplaced Pages page for our company that people in our community could edit, similar to other companies like Apple that have Misplaced Pages pages. It is not supposed to be an advertisement, but informative for people wanting to learn about our company. I am new to this and am trying to learn the rules. I was told that the sandbox was private so I could practice learning how to write, the content in my sandbox is not supposed to be made public yet. Can you please unblock me and teach me where I can create a draft and keep it private so I can practice making content before I submit it for review? Onpointmarketing (talk) 14:34, 18 October 2024 (UTC)
Also, you can feel free to change my username to whatever you would like, I did not know that it had to be something non-business related. I assumed that when people from Apple add to the Apple page, that their usernames indicated that they work with Apple for transparency. Please change my username to whatever you would like if that is required to get this account unblocked. Onpointmarketing (talk) 14:42, 18 October 2024 (UTC)
No. you have to follow the instructions when making an appeal. What you are describing, viz. "We wanted to start a Misplaced Pages page for our company", is not allowed unless you keep strictly within the guidelines, which so far you have not done. Deb (talk) 14:48, 18 October 2024 (UTC)
Hi Deb, can you please teach me the guidelines? And is there not a spot where I can privately draft a page to get onPoint started that can stay private until I request it to be reviewed? I am happy to have to change content and do what needs to be done to follow the guidelines. Onpointmarketing (talk) 14:56, 18 October 2024 (UTC)
Misplaced Pages is not a business directory, so a company is not entitled to have a Misplaced Pages article just because it exists. All topics must be notable by Misplaced Pages's definition to merit inclusion. In the specific case of a company, it must meet the notability criteria for companies and organizations. For this to happen, the company must have already received significant coverage in multiple reliable and independent sources. We have no interest in what a company wishes to say about itself, as this is an inherent conflict of interest. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 15:05, 18 October 2024 (UTC)
Hi, so is the sandbox private or not? Why am I getting blocked when it is in sandbox mode? Onpointmarketing (talk) 15:16, 18 October 2024 (UTC)
It's not private. You are not allowed to use it for advertising. Deb (talk) 15:27, 18 October 2024 (UTC)
So why does the sandbox page say that it is private and will not show unless the draft is submitted for review? And I already said in my first message that we do not want to use it for advertising, we want it to be there for people to learn the history of our company, similar to Apple and local companies in our area. How can we accomplish this? Onpointmarketing (talk) 15:29, 18 October 2024 (UTC)
"we want it to be there for people to learn the history of our company" - almost a textbook definition of advertising your company. Please go away and read the guidelines before making any further edits. You're getting paid to do things properly; I'm doing it voluntarily. Deb (talk) 15:41, 18 October 2024 (UTC)
But Apple has the history of its company listed on its page for people to learn, so are you saying that Apple is doing the textbook definition of advertising their company? And I am telling you that I read what guidelines I could find, and they said that the sandbox is private so I can practice there, and clearly you are not treating it as private as it is described on the sandbox page itself, that is why I am asking for your help. And telling me to go away is not polite, as you are the person that blocked me even though I was only in sandbox mode and am completely willing to do what needs to be done to change our username and follow the guidelines. Onpointmarketing (talk) 15:46, 18 October 2024 (UTC)
The subject of any Misplaced Pages article - Apple included - does not own or control its content. Readers expected articles that are written independently of their subjects. Articles are formed as paraphrased summaries of material previously published in reliable, third-party sources. We have no interest in what a company considers to be its own history; we care about what independent writers (who have no financial, personal or political interest in the company) have chosen on their own to publish about it.
As for your sandbox page - while it is less visible than that of a mainspace article, it is not "private" in the sense that it is untouchable by others. While we allow users some freedom to practice editing in their sandboxes, there is certain content that can and will be deleted on sight... unambiguous promotional material, copyright violations, or libellous content, to name a few. You do not own any content on Misplaced Pages, even the content you submit. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 16:05, 18 October 2024 (UTC)
So would it be best to delete this account? If so, how do I delete this account? Onpointmarketing (talk) 16:14, 18 October 2024 (UTC)
Accounts cannot be deleted, as all contributions (including your posts to this talk page) must be assigned an identifier, either an account name or an IP address. If you don't want to use this account anymore, simply abandon it and never log in to it again. I will caution you - do not create another account to write about onPoint. This practice is called sockpuppetry and such accounts are quickly identified and blocked.
However, if you are interested in being an individual editor who contributes to topics that are outside of your conflict of interest, then use the unblock procedure described in the block notice. You will need to propose a new name of an individual nature, and describe what topic areas you'd be interested in editing. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 17:03, 18 October 2024 (UTC)
