Y Faner Newydd is a Welsh language quarterly publication established in 1997 by Emyr Llywelyn and Ieuan Wyn, who continue to run and edit the magazine. It prides itself on being an independent publication, receiving no government subsidy. This allows it to take an anti-establishment slant. It is run voluntarily and depends on voluntary submissions.
It covers a broad range of topics, from history and politics to religion, spirituality, and science, all from a Welsh perspective. It campaigns for the preservation of the Welsh language, the continuation of the Welsh intellectual and cultural tradition, and the safeguarding of Welsh-speaking civilization. It has run a long-standing campaign against what it views as the anglicization of BBC Radio Cymru, the Welsh language radio station.
The magazine contains regular feature articles on minoritized and oppressed people around the world.
