Jack Manners
Hello there, I was recently expanding the Jack Manners (footballer) article from info in the Hartlepool United: The Complete Record book. The book lists his DOB as 4 May 1880 but wiki previously listed it as 27 December 1877 with a link to the English National Football Archive. I do not have access to this but heard that you might have access. I was wondering if you would be able to check this on my behalf/recommend any good sources from this period to check which date is correct? All the best Michaeldble (talk) 21:39, 7 September 2024 (UTC)

Thanks for checking the InternetArchiveBot edit, I don't know why it sometimes do that. But at least the archiveurl is already there. Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 09:13, 8 September 2024 (UTC)
- @Iggy the Swan: might be that the 404 page isn't coded properly, so it displays 404 to us but doesn't have whatever the bot needs to see in the code to recognise it as a dead link. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 09:20, 8 September 2024 (UTC)
- Your reasoning seems reasonable. At least with Joe Hart you've managed to find another source. Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 13:14, 8 September 2024 (UTC)

- Would an Amazon link work for the URL? I will ask before I add. Red Director (talk) 15:24, 7 October 2024 (UTC)
- @Red Director: I'd understand adding a link that gave the reader access to the cited page, but if all you're adding is a picture of the outside of the book, that's not what the citation's for. Clicking on the isbn and following links from the results of Special:BookSources proves the book exists. Check out Template:Cite book#URL, which tells us that

1956 cup final kits
Hello, its been a while. Came across a discussion of the final elsewhere, and someone asked why both teams were in change kits. I realised I had no idea. It is the kind of detail we would surely have included if one of us had seen it somewhere. Now this omission is nagging at me. Next time I'm in the loft I'll have to dig my books out and check. Oldelpaso (talk) 10:40, 30 December 2024 (UTC)
- Fantastic stuff! And so comprehensive! Thank you very much. I can only assume when I was looking at the microfilm of the MEN back then I skipped ahead from the semi to the week or two preceding the final and missed out on this tale.
- I am woefully out of practice after so long away. That newspaper archive access would be most useful if I decide to expand Diane Leather any further. Oldelpaso (talk) 18:51, 30 December 2024 (UTC)
