Jawaid Iqbal is an Indian academic who serves as the Vice Chancellor of Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University. He is a Professor of West Asian studies at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).
Before stepping into his current role, he made significant contributions at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), where he held key positions such as Acting Vice-Chancellor, Dean of the Faculty of International Studies, and Chairman various departments including West Asian and North African Studies, South African and Brazilian Studies, and Foreign Languages. His leadership extended to vital institutional bodies like the AMU Court, Executive Council, and Academic Council, as well as several Boards of Studies and Advisory Committees.
He holds a MPhil and Phd from JNU New Delhi. With over three decades of experience in teaching, research and administration he has supervised more then 20 doctoral and post doctoral scholars.
As a prolific author and editor, Dr. Iqbal has contributed to leading journals like the Journal of West Asian Studies, the Indian Journal of International Relations, and the West Asia Bulletin. His extensive body of work includes several books and over 50 research publications in prominent national and international journals. He is also an active participant in academic forums, having delivered more than 40 papers at seminars worldwide. His research has taken him to countries including France, Israel, the UK, Sweden, Norway, Austria, and Hungary.
Dr. Iqbal’s dedication to education and scholarship has significantly enriched both AMU and the broader field of International Relations. His work continues to inspire and shape academic thought and policy, reflecting his commitment to excellence and global understanding. .
