Syrian Popular Resistance (Arabic: المقاومة الشعبية السورية, romanized: al-Muqāwamah al-shaʻbīyah al-Sūrīyah) is a pro-Assadist and Ba'athist militant organization based in western Syria that was established after the fall of the Assad regime during the 2024 Syrian opposition offensives.
History
The Syrian Popular Resistance was established in December of 2024 after the fall of Assad, they released a statement on December 30, 2024, stating that they vowed to kill the leaders of Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham, soldiers of the "Zionist state", America, and NATO. They are considered the direct opposition to Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham. They labeled the group Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham as Kharijites in response to the killings of Christians, Shias, and Sunnis. They claimed responsibility for an attack that happened in Al-Hamdaniya, Aleppo, against Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham on December 29, 2024 in statements released on January 2, 2025, which also concluded that they were enemies of Al-Qaeda and the Islamic State.
