The Speed Dial is the homepage in Opera and Opera GX. In Opera GX, there is another homepage called the GX Corner. The Speed Dial has existed since Opera came out in 1995 for Windows 95 along with Internet Explorer, now known as Microsoft Edge. Back then, Opera was a trialware browser.

Opera

Opera's Speed Dial is the main page. It opens every time you make a new tab or starting Opera.

Interface

The Speed Dial's user interface in Opera contains a Yandex Search search bar, the background of the browser, shortcuts with a rounded landscape image, and some suggested pages below.

Opera GX

Opera GX on the other hand, has the Speed Dial as the homepage when a new tab is open. When you close all tabs or start Opera GX, instead, the GX Corner opens.

Interface

Similar to Opera's, but there are some differences:

  • The shortcuts have a cut in one of the corners where the indicator would be if you hover over the shortcut.
  • When a mod is downloaded from GX.me that has its own background, the background changes, depending on theme if light mode or dark mode is on.
  • There are some widgets on the right of the Speed Dial.
  • The Yandex Search search bar is transparent.
