John was the bishop of Banyas in the Kingdom of Jerusalem from 1161 to 1170.

Banyas was lost to the Muslims when Nur ad-Din took it in 1164. John was away when the attack took place. This made John essentially an auxiliary bishop to the archbishop of Tyre, to whom he was also a suffragan. John accompanied the archbishop of Tyre, Frederick of la Roche, on a mission to Europe in 1169 after the first embassy, consisting of Patriarch Amalric, Archbishop Ernesius of Caesarea, and Bishop William of Acre was driven back by a severe storm at sea.

John continued to hold the title of bishop of Banyas until his death in 1170, but no titular bishop was appointed to succeed him.
