The Darussalam Mosque commonly known as Masjid Darussalam is located in Clementi, Singapore. It was first established in 1979 and was officially opened in 1988. Its name, Darussalam (/ˌdɑːr ɛs səˈlɑːm/; from Arabic: دَار السَّلَام, romanized: Dār as-Salām) means "House of Peace" in Arabic.
History
The mosque was unofficially established on 15 July 1979 by a committee of Muslim residents from the Clementi neighbourhood (particularly clerics). Groundbreaking for the mosque started in 1985 after the government had given approval for the mosque's construction. The mosque was finally completed in 1988 and opened on the 27th December of the same year. According to the MUIS, however, the mosque's official completion date is 1989.
The mosque is known for its two geometric domes. The domes have currently been painted green but appear white in an earlier photo dated to circa 1989. Currently, the mosque's main facilities include a kindergarten and classes for the general public.
