Romano in 2024

Rich Romano is an award-winning author and photographer from Wayne, New Jersey. Rich’s first book Forgotten New Jersey: The Garden State's Unique, Historic, and Abandoned Curiosities was published on January 1, 2025, and features original photography from around the state.

He was born in Belleville, New Jersey on April 6, 1975 and attended Belleville High School from 1989 to 1993, where he was a two-sport athlete (track & field and football). Romano is also known for creating the Fat Romano sandwich in 1997 while attending Rutgers University. The sandwich was a favorite choice amongst college students at the famed Grease trucks, and contains cheese steak, fried egg, french fries, Taylor ham, lettuce and tomato, and was featured on several television shows including episode 19 of Man v. Food, season 2.

Romano is currently working on his second book which will feature original photography and history of New Jersey’s beach towns, slated for publication in early 2026.
