Peter von Köppen (Fenruary 19, 1793- May 23, 1864), was an ethnographer, historian, statistician, and geographer of German heritage, academician of the Petersburg Academy of Sciences [ru] (now Russian Academy of Sciences), holding the civil rank of Active State Councillor.
In 1825 he earned the degree of doctor of philosophy from the University of Tübingen and in 1926 he was elected [[corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
