R-salt (TNX, systematic name hexahydro-1,3,5-trinitroso-1,3,5-triazine), is an organic compound that has been used as an homemade explosive. It is a high explosive, that less sensitive than other compounds of similar availability. It has a similar structure to RDX—TNX has nitrosamine groups as compared to the nitroamine groups of RDX—but is less commonly used. It is also found as a decomposition product of RDX in the environment, such as after RDX detonation. Using chemistry similar to the synthesis of RDX, R-salt can be synthesized by reaction of hexamine with nitrous acid in the presence of an acid catalyst.
