James Neil Goodman (1929-2019) was born in Rochester, NY to Abraham and Fanny Posmantur Goodman. Jim had three siblings, Sylvia, Howard, and Lewis. He lived his childhood in Buffalo, NY and graduated from The University of Buffalo.

In 1957, Jim founded the James Goodman Gallery at the Park Lane Hotel in Buffalo, NY. The gallery relocated to New York City in 1967, where it exhibited works by both Contemporary American artists and established Modern masters through 2019.
