Tameryraptor (“Thief from the beloved land”) is a genus of carcharodontosaurid theropod dinosaur that lived in North Africa during the Late Cretaceous (Cenomanian). It contains one species, T. markgrafi, originally assigned to the genus Carcharodontosaurus.
History
The remains of Tameryraptor wass found by german palaeontologist Ernst Stromer and assigned as the holotype of the genus Carcharodontosaurus saharicus. The name is SNSB-BSPG 1922 X46.
The remains were destroyed in the Bombing of Munich in World War II, and therefore this genus was named based off an archival photograph.
The genus name comes from ta-mery, ancient egyptian phrase meaning Beloved Land, and raptor, meaning thief.
Description
Tameryraptor had a small horn-like protrusion upon its snout as its distinguishing feature.
