He has received two Dora Awards for the roles of Billy in The Collected Works of Billy the Kid, and The Man in On the Verge (Tarragon Theatre).
Hughes is married to fellow actor Megan Follows. He lives with Follows and her child, Russel, part of the year in Los Angeles and part of the year in Toronto.
