He was born in Phitsanulok after 1556 as son of King Maha Thammaracha and Queen Visutkasattri, and full younger brother of King Naresuan the Great. In the King Naresuan reign, he was Uparaja (vice-king), but with an authority same as the king. Following the death of his brother he became king in 1605, reigning for 5 years.
