James T. Naugle is an American real estate broker, currently serving as the Mayor of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Although a lifelong Democrat, he frequently supports Republican candidates.. Elected for the first time in 1991, Naugle is the longest serving Mayor in the history of Fort Lauderdale, serving for six consecutive terms.


Naugle was on Fort Lauderdale City Advisory Boards since 1976. He was elected City Commissioner in 1985.

Naugle is the longest serving Mayor in the history of Fort Lauderdale and is ineligible for a seventh term.

Biography

Early life

Jim Naugle was born and raised in Fort Lauderdale. He works for more than 25 years as a real estate broker. He is an alumni of Stranahan High School, attended Broward Community College and obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration from Florida Atlantic University, Class of 1975.

Marriage and children

Naugle is married to Carol-Lisa Phillips (born 1963) and has one daughter, Rachel Elizabeth (born 1998). Judge Carol-Lisa Phillips was appointed to the 17th Judicial Circuit, which serves Broward County, in 2003.

Political Career

Jim Naugle started in politics as a member of Fort Lauderdale city boards in 1976. Elected city commissioner in 1985, he ran for city mayor and was elected in 1991. He was reelected four times and is in his last term as mayor, since he cannot be reelected.

Political Views

Naugle is a registered Democrat, but he frequently supports Republican candidates.
