Hello Kbh3rd and welcome to Misplaced Pages! Hope you like it here, and stick around.

Here are some tips to help you get started:

Good luck!

Maps

Hello! I notice you are listed in Misplaced Pages as a topographic mapmaker. I and another fellow Wikipedian would like your help on a page, if you would be interested and willing. Please see Palmdale, California USA and see the effort already placed there. We're hoping to have a topo map below the City seal/political map/infobox due to the geographic isolation Palmdale has historically had apart from Los Angeles. Below the topo map I plan to add one or two photo images that depict the city for the article. Would you like to help us in this task? Please reply at my Talk page. Thanks in advance for your kind consideration! --avnative 18:55, Aug 26, 2004 (UTC)

==Re:Asimov's planets==

I wondered about that. I thought it would be easier to start out with seperate articles and then condense them if the need arises. I don't have time to do it now, though, but I'll get around to it quickly. Cheers, _Iñgólemo←_ 03:55, 2004 Sep 3 (UTC)

Pages for deletion

I've noticed many submissions by you on VfD, so I wanted to write. In many cases, you should just fix the problem yourself and create an appropriate redirect. VFD is not a clean-up or article review process -- it is meant only for pages which obviously do not belong and have no hope, or contain copyrighted material. BE BOLD! -- Netoholic @ 03:44, 4 Sep 2004 (UTC)

In one way that makes sense as it's impossible otherwise to keep up with the flow of drivle. On the other hand, I don't see how that differs from speedy deletion. Well, it's time to go review those help documents again, in any case. Thanks for the pointer. Kbh3rd 04:02, 4 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Awareness stats graphs

Thank you for adding the graphs to the Misplaced Pages:Awareness statistics page. I've added another category, daily page hits, that you might want to graph. -- Karada 12:56, 4 Sep 2004 (UTC)

I think I found a solution to the bug in the google count on usenet (see Misplaced Pages talk:Awareness statistics#Usenet posts about Misplaced Pages). Would it be possible to update the graph you made? Thank you. Donar Reiskoffer 07:58, 24 Sep 2004 (UTC)

September 9th will be one week from when you placed this article on VfD. Please remove it on that date, barring a sudden, surprise change in consensus. -Joseph 17:45, 2004 Sep 8 (UTC)

District Court - page needing fixing

Thanks for your comment on this.

I created this page after seeing a link from a Scots law page to "a page that doesn't exist". Forgetting to note what jurisdiction it applies to was a bit silly (it is Scotland). I'm not sure how to change headings though, quite new to wikipedia. I thought if I got an entry started at least others can build on that, if so inclined.

Romeo!

Okay, so maybe I was being ambiguous, not saying the year or country of production, in this stub. But you've just made the article into an absolute piece of misinformation. The series is not Canadian, it's by Nickelodeon. And the series debuted in 2003, not 2004. Sometimes lack of information makes an article better than one with info. -- user:zanimum

Hmm. Maybe we see why writers of encyclopedia articles should try to be encyclopedic with their creations; if I mis-researched the details, so might others to follow! Quod erat demonstrandum. ~

speedy deletions

Thanks for your work tagging CSDs. I have just one request, though: when you tag a page, please leave the original content intact—it saves us sysops a few mouse clicks when we can see at first glance why something is speedily deletable. —No-One Jones 22:10, 17 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Oops, I usually do so. I'll reprimand my mouse severly for overstepping its authority.

re: notability

Good evening. In a VfD discussion thread, you asked what the standards are for "notability". You might want to look at Misplaced Pages:criteria for inclusion of biographies and its related pages. I don't know that it will answer your specific question about that author but it might shed some light on the topic more generally. Rossami 06:40, 21 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Copyrights

Palestinian Environmental NGOs Network and Ibdaa Cultural Center

There is no copyright violation on that page. You should have raised the issue on the Talk page first before putting up the copyvio notice. Quoting Misplaced Pages:Copyrights, "It is not the job of rank-and-file Wikipedians to police every article for possible copyright infringement, but if you suspect one, you should at the very least bring up the issue on that page's talk page. Others can then examine the situation and take action if needed." If you had bothered to read the Misplaced Pages page and the Ibdaa About Us pages carefully, you would have noted that although they are similar, the Misplaced Pages article was rewritten so it would not be a copyright violation. Thanks for your efforts. Alberuni 02:30, 17 Oct 2004 (UTC)

LOL! Lay either of the two Misplaced Pages articles side by side with the original web source, and they're practically identical. I did this, in an HTML markup, that makes it as plain as the nose on your face that these pages were ripped wholesale with just a couple of words changed — copyright infringement is not avoided by the substitution of a couple of synonyms. I'd post the comparisons if I could without repeating the infringement. But it's easy enough to compare this to this, and this to this.
I appreciate the difficulty in taking a source and writing a non-infringing article – I've dealt with that myself. It's always more difficult when you have only one source and when you don't already have knowledge of the subject that you can easily present in your own words. --- Kbh3rd 15:47, 18 Oct 2004 (UTC)
You are not the final arbiter of copyright infringement for Misplaced Pages. The appropriate action, if you have such concerns, is to bring it up on the Talk page so that others can express their opinion. If there is agreement, editors have an opportunity to fix the copy. If no one bothers to fix the copy, then it can be listed for deletion. I appreciate the difficulty some people have working collaboratively, especially if they are not used to seeking a consensus for their decisions. Practice makes perfect. Alberuni 16:45, 18 Oct 2004 (UTC)
Your responses make it seem that you're more concerned about the fact that you got caught than you are about fixing the problem. No, I certainly am not the final arbiter, which is why violation notices get posted to the copyright problems page, and after a week an admin will check the problem and how it's been addressed in the article's talk page and/or on the temporary rewrite page. Please understand how the system works and use it.
BTW, I checked several dozen pages listed for copyright violation over the past week or two, and found just one that had a note on the talk page. But here's your chance to fix Palestine Children's Relief Fund before it gets taken down for violating this. Please note that derivative works, i.e., works that do not differ substantially from the original, do indeed infringe copyright, and that, "In a case where the copyright owner sustains the burden of proving, and the court finds, that infringement was committed willfully, the court in its discretion may increase the award of statutory damages to a sum of not more than $150,000." U.S.C. Title 17 § 504(c)(2).
Sorry, exceptions cannot be made because it's a good cause who we "just know" would not bring Misplaced Pages any grief. Misplaced Pages simply cannot tolerate the presence of any copyrighted material used without permission. You can certainly request permission to use others' material. The owners of the types of material that you've been posting might readily agree. Just make sure that that permission is clearly documented on the article's talk page. But, as we cannot presume permission, infringing works should be removed or made non-infringing until such permission is obtained. --Kbh3rd 00:47, 19 Oct 2004 (UTC)

And So Such Writing Is Primarily Entered. Alberuni 01:25, 19 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Project Liberty Ship

There is no copyright violation on that page. I am the author of the article. I am also the webmaster for Project Liberty Ship and wrote 95% of the articles on the PLS website. Please raise the issue on the Talk page first before putting up the copyvio notice.Oldfarm 01:25, 18 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Sorry, perhaps I should go to the talk page first. But IMHO the onus should be on the author when first posting the article to preset evidence on the talk page that there is no infringement whenever copying verbatim from another site. No unexplained copying, period – any unexplained duplication should be presumed infringement. I guess that Misplaced Pages has other fora for discussing such policies other than on my talk page, though. --- Kbh3rd 15:47, 18 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Fort de Chartres

There are definitely different practices in regard to forts and other historical places. Personally, I dislike the comma-stacked method of disambiguation being used for things other than contemporary populated places. For a historical place, especially one from a period before statehood, it makes little sense to use the state to disambiguate it like it is a postal address. In cases where there is a present-day town with the same like, like Fort Recovery, Ohio, obviously the town article would go there, and depending on how much info there is about the fort, either include it in the town article or put it in a separate article without the state. olderwiser 22:25, Oct 19, 2004 (UTC)

Taum Sauk pumped storage plant

Nice piece about the Taum Sauk pumped storage plant.

The Acre-feet units you quoted made me laugh! Only an American could come up with such an obscure volume unit. Why not US gallons, or cubic yards, or something. Thank goodness for metric units! Sendervictorius 05:10, 12 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Kit Bond

Actually, the general rule is that the main article should be under the name a person is most commonly known by. References are made to the full name, but links all go back to the common name. Acsenray 18:36, 18 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Did you know

On ], Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Example, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Error: Invalid time.&end=Error: Invalid time.&project=en.wikipedia.org&pages=Example Example), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

The Humungous Image Tagging Project

Hi. You've helped with the Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Wiki Syntax, so I thought it worth alerting you to the latest and greatest of Misplaced Pages fixing project, User:Yann/Untagged Images, which is seeking to put copyright tags on all of the untagged images. There are probably, oh, thirty thousand or so to do (he said, reaching into the air for a large figure). But hey: they're images ... you'll get to see lots of random pretty pictures. That must be better than looking for at at and the the, non? You know you'll love it. best wishes --Tagishsimon (talk)

Article Licensing

Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Misplaced Pages's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 2000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:

To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "{{DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual}}" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:

Option 1
I agree to ] all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
{{DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual}}

OR

Option 2
I agree to ] all my contributions to any ], county, or city article as described below:
{{DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual}}

Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace "{{DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual}}" with "{{MultiLicensePD}}". If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know what you think at my talk page. It's important to know either way so no one keeps asking. -- Ram-Man (comment| talk)

  • I've read all the discusions and arguments, and it seems that this doesn't take anything away from Misplaced Pages. Sure, I'll let CC-licence projects use whatever I put up here. Articles serially edited under a mixture of licenses may become to resemble the Gordian knot, but that's the problem of whoever is trying to use it under the alternate license, not Misplaced Pages's. - Kbh3rd 03:54, 11 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Hi, I didn't mark Image:Deoxyribose.png, because the current version was uploaded by user:G3pro. Anyway, rozeta was the old location of the Polish wikipedia (back in the good old days:-) and we just copied the stuff over. Where to respond

I got your message regarding a picture. First, perhaps you could help me do things right by telling me whether I'm to respond below your message on my Talk page or on your Talk page in order for you to get the response. Thank You

Hello, thanks for the time you are investing in tracking down (at least mine) unlicensed images. As a wikipedian, i appreciate your efforts for the mos maiorum. I tried to remember everything i uploaded and tagged or retagged them according to Cc-by-sa, but maybe something escaped. As for the family trees, i'll tag the rest but not today because they are too many for my tendinitis to cope in one go. But they are not forgotten. All the best, muriel@pt 14:17, 15 Dec 2004 (UTC)

The map was made by me and I've put it uder GFDL. It still needs some modifications, mainly because some users have criticized its authenticity (the sizes of borders, etc.), but untill then it will do (just fine). A basis for it was one high school history textbook, so it is not just pure fantasy. Thanks for your notice. Best regards. --XJamRastafire 00:49, 16 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Ah, one I forgot to put source info on. Unfortunately I no longer remember where this came from. If not fallen into the public domain by now, it doubtless would qualify as fair use, but we need an origin for fair use claims. I'll see if I can track down where it came from. If not, we'll find another pic to replace it. —Morven 06:43, Dec 17, 2004 (UTC)

Scanned this and the other Grange images from an old Grange history book while working on another site. At the time I remember checking on the copyright and seem to remember that the book was very old and also left in the public domain to help spread the history. However, I do not have immeadiate access to this book (it belongs to a friend and is in storage). So I guess I'd say they are in the public domain.

Exhibition Stadium

I had the image for a while before I put it up, though it obviously wasn't originally mine. I did a quick check before uploading, and must've missed any red flags at the time. I'd think that fair use/unsure might be more appropriate than the copyvio - there's at least the two sites claiming the image, and I'd be damned surprised if either one actually did - but I dunno. I'll pull it from the linked page. --DMG413 00:35, 6 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Hi. You made a comment on my user talk (which I've only just seen) about the image for Mick Karn. This image was scanned from an album cover of the album Beginning to Melt. Map of Chinese dialects

I'm currently putting Chinese language through Peer Review and there's a problem with one of the maps of the varieties of spoken Chinese:

File:Y-NL400b.gif

It's a very nice image, but the license seems to be too unfree for it to be proper for an FAC. We definetly won't get it through the nomination process without a proper map of the dialects. Do you think you could make a new one for us? Peter Isotalo 18:21, Apr 3, 2005 (UTC)

Hi Kbh3rd,

I’ve seen your message at my user talk, and replying to your request I would like to say that the image of the Mavica digicam came from a digital photography article from German Misplaced Pages:

I have to admitt that I’m not so experienced in Misplaced Pages edits, and English is not my mother language (I am a native Brazilian Portuguese speaker), so if you want to correct something or put the right origin tag on the Mavica image, I’ll thank you very much.

Best regards,
