The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is a game currently under development by Bethesda Softworks. Confirmed for the PC, Xbox 360, and unconfirmed for the Playstation 3. It continues the long tradition of The Elder Scrolls game series. So far details are scanty but it has been in development since 2002 and it is claimed as "another leap forward in role-playing with its combination of freeform gameplay and cutting-edge graphics."

Initially believed to take place in a world smaller than that of its predecessors, the interview with Todd Howard (see link below) debunks these rumours. Although it has been confirmed that the word will be bigger, the actual size is questionable; some (secondary) sources have stated sizes of 16 square miles and other (primary) sources have stated 40 square miles. Oblivion will sport a completely reworked, a more involving and exciting combat engine (described by the developers as "kinetic" and "visceral"), outstanding graphics (at E3 2005 many in the media have stated they were some of the best at the show), a more robust magical system, a more interactive thievery system, and many other features. Oblivion will mainly take place in the Imperial province of Cyrodiil but parts of it will also take place in Oblivion, the realm of the Daedra.

It is slated to be released in the fourth quarter of 2005 (roughly the same time as Xbox 360).
