Nothing is known about his parenst and his youth. He had received his magister degree of theology from the University of Leipzig. In 1489, Dr. Johannes Knolleisen was canon at the de:Merseburger Dom cathedral in Merseburg. From at least 1512, Knolleisen and Lucas David supported students from their home town Allenstein, to help them study.
