commons:image:Trophy.jpg

Do you remember anything about the copyright of that specific image? Its currently on dr at commons - see commons:Commons:Deletion_requests/Image:Trophy.jpg, and I was hoping you might remember something about its source. Bawolff 22:06, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

Yes - it was actually a press release snapshot photograph from an NIH function. It appears that NIH has deleted the source ohot from its site. The award was part of an otherwise very busy picture, but the shot was head-on so I could cut out all the extraneous people, etc. To cover some of the jagged lines from the edit, I added a drop shadow - which look as if it has been badly cropped by some other Wiki editor. - Davodd 16:06, 1 July 2007 (UTC)
(Sorry to pop in, I have your talk on watchlist from a previous message I left you) Do you by chance remember the source page? Not necessarily the exact URL, which would be impractical, but perhaps whether the image was on a press release or some other type of page, and any other details like the date (or year) of the NIH function? I do know the original URL: http://www.nidcr.nih.gov/NR/rdonlyres/F52F097F-B37C-4B74-80FB-8321BDA72953/0/student2.jpg - the "NR" behind ".gov/" is for news releases. But it appears they redesigned the site when they added RSS fees a few months ago. I do not remember the year, but it was more than 2 years ago. Once that happened, the obvious nature of its "public domain"-ness disappeared and then it was nominated for deletion. - Davodd 20:40, 1 July 2007 (UTC)

Recently orphaned due to de-logo bot taking it out of a History of... page. It would be a shame to delete this image since it is rare and some future historian may find a use for it. - Davodd 23:55, 10 July 2007 (UTC)

July 2007 GAC backlog elimination drive

A new elimination drive of the backlog at Misplaced Pages:Good article candidates will take place from the month of July through August 12, 2007. There are currently about 130 articles that need to be reviewed right now. If you are interested in helping with the drive, then please visit Misplaced Pages:Good article candidates backlog elimination drive and record the articles that you have reviewed. Awards will be given based on the number of reviews completed. Project News
  • Our Deputy Coordinators have been doing a fabulous job so far. Well done!
  • The portal is now looking very snazzy, well done to Fireplace for all his hard work.
  • The list of LGBT people to be sorted has now beed reduced by 20%. Please help us with it, all of us adding just one person a day would have a dramatic effect!
  • The Core Topics is now largely complete. The original aim of getting some kind of publication out of it is extremely long term - any short term uses we can make of it are welcome on the project talkpage.
  • A suggestion was made this month that we start our own wiki. Although the conclusion was that we felt we were a part of Misplaced Pages rather than a stand alone organisation, it seems there is an LGBT wiki already, at http://lgbt.wikia.com/Main_page . Members may be interested in getting involved there.
  • The Collaboration is now getting rather short on suggestions. Article nominations for August through December would be welcome on the talkpage.
  • There is now a list of Missing LGBT Topics. Help is needed to work out which topics can be made redirects or need to be created. Please contribute is you can.
  • An LGBT banner that was created for Misplaced Pages's internal ads system has now been adapted so it can be placed on blogs and websites. The html is <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/WP:LGBT"><img src="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/76/Qxz-ad48.gif" height="53" width="445"></a> Please credit Miranda and link to her userpage: <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/User:Miranda">Miranda</a>. Gay icon

Hi, Davodd!

I'm considering putting Gay icon up for peer review and possible GA status. I'd love to hear your thoughts on it? I've just gone through it and done some cleanup work and think that everything except the criticism section is looking pretty good. Criticism needs some more content, though. Any other thoughts? Well, it couldn't hurt - and the page has gotten much better than it was when it started. Even if it doesn't pass, you will get good critical observations from a fresh perspective. I think the biggest struggle you are going to have is with In entertainment since neither GA nor Peer Review like long lists due to their poor prose. They will suggest that it be re-written in paragraph form. I have the scars of former GA and Peer Review efforts myself to know that one. ;-) - Davodd 21:49, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
