Poon is also used within Eastern parts of Australia to describe a recent feminist liberation movement. The movement focuses on gender inequality within the field of sexuality; it's ideological positioning maintains that females can 'poon' men and therefore reclaim their true sexual identity. While only beginning recently in Sydney, founded by a group of female thespians, the ideas and social constructs surrounding this movement has had a huge impact on young women within contemporary Australian society. The phrasing of 'poon' while sometimes used as a term of sexual innuendo has been reclaimed by women and used in a new and positive method to enhance gender equality worldwide. The belief is that women shouldn't be labelled with violently explicit terms when exercising their sexual rights of experimentation and personal development, when males are labelled as hero's and their image becomes larger then life. When a female decides to engage in all matters sexual, exercising the 'poon' philosophy allows the female the same amount of sexual freedom and liberation that men are currently rewarded with. The simple term 'poon' is communicated to the male to show the female dominance in all sexual and personal situations.
