Karacaahmet Cemetery in Uskudar, Istanbul is the oldest and largest cemetery in Turkey and one of the greatest cemeteries in the world.
Karaca Ahmet cemetery, named after a warrior companion of the second Ottoman sultan, Orhan. The cemetery is thought to have been founded as early as the mid 14th century and estimates put the number of interments at over a million.
Karacaahmet Cemetery is a non-profit burying ground of approximately 750 acres.So huge is Karaca Ahmet, and so extravagant the monuments, that you feel you are walking through a very strange city.
