An image's caption is text that accompanies the image. The caption may include the title of the picture and/or an explanation of what is depicted in the image. Not every Misplaced Pages image needs a caption: some are simply decorative, while some others are self-explanatory. Captions should not repeat the article title name unnecessarily.
If you decide that an image does not need a caption, then please follow the advice at Misplaced Pages:Alternative text for images to specify appropriate "alt" text. Alt text should not be a mirror of the caption text. Captions can be added by using the frame or thumb parameter as part of an image tag. For example: ]

Your VandalProof Application
Thank you for your interest in VandalProof, Arknascar44. As you may know, VP is a very powerful program, and in fact the just released 1.3 version has even more power. Because of this we must uphold strict protocols before approving a new applicant. Regretfully, I have chosen to decline your application at this time. The reason for this is that you have only been editing for just over a month.
Please note it is nothing personal by any means, and we certainly welcome you to apply again soon. Thank again for your interest in VandalProof. Daniel 08:20, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
- None taken. It is a powerful tool, and it is understandable you would not want it to fall into the wrong hands. Expect another application in a couple of months! ;) Arknascar44 19:25, 24 June 2007 (UTC)

Shaw and Crompton FAC
Hi. I'm sorry to bother you, but as a LoCE member, I just wondered if you would be willing to have a look through the Shaw and Crompton article. It is currently a Featured Article Candidate and needs a copy-edit for grammar by someone who hasn't yet seen it. Any other ways to improve the article would also be welcome. Thank you very much, if you can. Epbr123 12:20, 13 July 2007 (UTC)
- I would love to look through it, thanks for the offer Epbr123. However, I'm gone this weekend, and I'm not sure if that conflicts with the end of the FAC nomination. If it does, I won't be able to help (and I'm terribly sorry if that's true). If it doesn't, I'll sort it out on Monday. Cheers, Arky 21:57, 13 July 2007 (UTC)
Your turn
I have recently become entangled in a situation which developed primarily on Talk:American Family Association (and associated edit war on the article), now archived to Talk:American Family Association/Archive 1. I have given basic background and some links to difs on WP:ANI#Mentors wanted (no, nobody is interested apparently) and there is more to the tale on the contributor's talk page. Here is your chance to be brilliant! I request criticism of my approach, and suggestions for how to proceed. This will have a double benefit: while I can critique your comprehension and methodology, I will gain the benefit of your critique and ideas. And we may reap a triple benefit, if the editor in question can learn here as well. I look forward to your thoughts on the matter - please post here so as to keep the discussion intact. Thanks much - KillerChihuahua 14:04, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
- Alright, let's break this down...it's a bit complcated:
Part 1: Your Initial Approach
Your first comment to LAEC was very well put. The only problem I have with it is that you called him a troll, which is certainly acceptable under WP:TROLL, which states "When a user, in a conflict of any sort, insists on the letter of a rule while grossly violating its spirit", e.g. misinterpreting WP:VANDAL#NPOV Disputes (if only a little), but perhaps you could've assumed good faith for a bit longer. I know this is a bit of a stretch, considering the numerous vandalism accusations that were made, but, when it all comes down to it, he was trying to insert what he thought was NPOV and factual information into the article. He just got a bit carried away by all the excitement (though this in no way excuses his actions). Still, not accusing a troll of being one might've stopped things from getting worse.
Part 2:The Block
Your block, along with reasoning, was completely justified and fair. You followed the blocking policy without any violations. It could be said that you were involved in the content dispute, but, IMHO, you weren't. You weren't disputing content, just the behavior of LAEC. So, your block leaves me with nothing to critique =).
Part 3:What to do Now
Well...this one's a bit tricky. You're dealing with a big temper, so an accusation, in my opinion, is not the way to go. You need to tell the user that you meant no harm, but that they needed to understand blatant personal attacks, even ones they think are based on a policy that allows them to say such things, are not allowed. Instead, they should assume that other editors were doing what they thought was right. Also, tell them you understand that they were only trying to insert correct information into the article, but that they need to understand the article is the community's article, not theirs, and they need to acknowledge others' opinions, even if they don't agree with them. In addition, they need to thouroughly read WP:CIVIL and learn how to deal with an opinion they don't agree with, and how to cite policy without harassing other editors. As for the content dispute, if they can understand civility, it shouldn't be an issue. Besides, it shouldn't be your problem, since the only problem you're trying to fix is LAEC's behavior, not a category debate. Fixing his behavior will probably fix the content issue, anyway :)
- Hope this clears things up a bit, Arky 23:09, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
- Well, I didn't call him a troll, but did mention that his actions were trolling if certain conditions were met, which could have been phrased better. You're correct that I have scrupulously avoided getting into the content dispute, and have never edited the article, so there is zero conflict. I have attempted to do precisely as you suggest on his talk page already, but your phrasing is so good that if you don't mind, I'm going to paste it on his page - unless you'd like to do it. He may be more receptive to you, as you haven't blocked him. Not to mention that your phrasing is kinder than mine was.
- So full marks, and thank you! KillerChihuahua 00:05, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
- Ha, thanks. You can paste it, though....he'll probably have no idea who I am :) Arky 00:09, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
- Incorporated it into my most recent post on his talk page. It appears from his post immediately prior, that progess is indeed being made! KillerChihuahua 00:50, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

Dear Arky
Dear Arky, I have no words to say how deeply the wonderful magic you've woven onto me has moved me. kndness has a secret value in itself that far supasses what most people realize, one that you grasp with ease, and that makes you special. For that, You have my deepest admiration, and from this day on, my friendship. Love, |

How do you set up the design for a cabal
How do you set up the design for a cabal, you know like the heart at the top of a page or penguin. I tried to ask that Ryulong but he was just joking around. Lighthead 22:05, 4 August 2007 (UTC)
- Hey, Lighthead, I'm happy to help :) First make a subpage like User:Lighthead/Cabal, then create it with the syntax below. It's a bit complex, and I'm no expert at template syntax, but I'll do my best. Here goes:
{{#switch: {{SUBJECTSPACE}} | User = <div style="right:10px; top:5px;" class="metadata topicon" id="cabal"> <imagemap> Image:image name here|20px|alternate text (write something related to the cabal) rect 0 0 128 128 ] desc none </imagemap></div> | User talk = <div style="right:10px; top:5px;" class="metadata topicon" id="cabal"> <imagemap> Image:same image as above|20px|same alternate text as above rect 0 0 128 128 ] desc none </imagemap></div> | }}
- Hope that helps in your quest to create a cabal icon. Oh, and if you want to include some kind of member list or anything else on your cabal's subpage, type
<noinclude> Whatever you want to say on the page </noinclude>
- By the way, if you have any questions at all, just drop me a line here. Happy editing and hidey-ho, Arky 00:25, 5 August 2007 (UTC)
Hi
Just wondering how you made the cool sig for talk pages and such. Been trying to make one on my own and well it is not working. O and good luck on your anit-vandal group.Phoenix741 01:45, 6 August 2007 (UTC)
- Hello, again! Ok, well, to make a signature of your own, go to your preferences by clicking preferences in the top-right corner of the screen when you log in, or just click here. In the box next to "signature", just type in the wiki code to produce it. For example, the horrendously long code for my sig is ''']''']. You can play around with that, or try something else....its up to you. Oh, and be sure to check the box next to raw signature. Otherwise, you sig'll look pretty messed up. Hope that helps, and if you have any other questions, feel free to ask right here; I'm always ready :) Arky 01:51, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

Spanish to English Translations
I've noticed you're involved in the Spanish-to-English translations project. I'd like to get involved as well, but am not sure how to begin. I have translated two pages (Cucuta Deportivo and Magico Gonzalez, but would like expand my involvement as well as include further pages. I was hoping you had advice on how to do this. Both pages I translated are, of course, in need of proofreading as I'm only human (sigh) so advice on that would be great too. Thanks in advance Isaiahcambron 18:20, 7 August 2007 (UTC)
- Hey Isaiah, I'm happy to help. In order to become a translator from spanish to english and vice versa (I'm assuming you're doing Spanish translation because of the examples you've given me....but correct me if I'm wrong) just add the text {{Translator|es|Spanish}} to your userpage which will add a fancy little box to it. If you also want to become a proofreader, add the text {{Proofreader|es|Spanish}} to your page. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask me here. Thanks, Arky 22:39, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

my talkpage
is there anything of importance to other users on my talkpage? and why should i not be "allowed" to remove old cruft? -- ∂ 09:34, 13 August 2007 (UTC)
btw, have a look at Image:Arknascar44_talkpage.png -- does the big smilie obscure the toolbox and the text on your talkpage on purpose? imho it's a little bit annoying. -- ∂ 10:07, 13 August 2007 (UTC)
- Arky, a user may blank his or her own talk page whenever they wish. Archiving is encouraged, but not required. The only exception is IP addresses, as they do not "own" their talk pages in the same sense that a registered user "owns" their talk page. See WP:TALK#User talk pages. Tagging of Image:Winning Eleven 9.jpg
OrphanBot left a note at User Talk:Crassic saying that the above mentioned image lacked an image tag. However, approximately one hour after the tag was added OrphanBot still notified User:Crassic about the tagging issue even though the tag was added after OrphanBot tagged the image as untagged . Is there a way to stop the bot from notifying a user after the tag has been added, but before it edits the user's talk page? Thanks, and happy editing, Arky 00:26, 16 August 2007 (UTC)
- Are you sure you've got the relative times right there? It looks to me like OrphanBot marking the image as "untagged", then less than 60 seconds later, notifying the user. The copyright tag is then added fifteen minutes after that. --Carnildo 01:49, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

Reminder
Hola Mentors!
Im sending you this reminder because you volunteered to mentor my students in English Advanced B as they become contributing members of the Misplaced Pages community. We start working with Misplaced Pages in earnest next week. I ask you to take a look at your entry in the Mentor Table at Misplaced Pages:School_and_university_projects/ITESM_Campus_Toluca/Mentors
Please update the information, esp. with what your technical and informational expertise is or, if you have decided that you no longer want to participate, please remove your information from the table. Please watch the pages associated with the project. Students will contact you via your user page and as soon as my students have user pages, I will put them on the navigation bar associated with the project.
I don’t need to remind you that your job is NOT to write their assignments for them, of course. I certainly will tell my students that… and the fact that you are volunteers that don’t have to help them… so they need to be nice. If any students misbehave (tho I don’t expect it) don’t hesistate to contact me and I will take care of it. The goal of this project is to integrate successfully into the Misplaced Pages community. Anyway… what I really need your help with is helping students get oriented to Misplaced Pages, make appropriate changes and write about appropriate topics (see Misplaced Pages:School_and_university_projects/ITESM_Campus_Toluca/Syllabus for assignments). I also need your technical expertise… I am only an English teacher after all! I appreciate what technology does for us but I am no technical expert!
Again, thank you for volunteering and you will hear from us again soon! Thelmadatter 19:23, 28 August 2007 (UTC)Thelmadatter
- I'll make sure my information is updated. This is a really great idea, and I can't wait to see it set in motion. Cheers, Arky 20:07, 2 September 2007 (UTC)
Your NPWatcher application
Dear Arknascar44,
Thank you for applying for NPWatcher! You've been approved to use it. Before you run the program, please check the changelog on the application page to see if there is a newer release (or just add the main page (here) to your watchlist). Report any bugs or feature suggestion here. If you need help, feel free to contact me or join NPWatcher.

Please read edit summaries before speedy deletion tags
If you had read my edit summary, you would have seen that I was "Currently compiling and translating the Frisian and Dutch versions of this article." Because your speedy delete caused an edit conflict, I will have to go back and retranslate it all. Aelffin 15:41, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
- I apologize for the trouble caused. However, it would be helpful if you translated the article by creating your own sandbox at a page like User:Aelffin/Sandbox, and then doing the work there. That way, you could copy-paste the text from your sandbox into the article page. I will delete the speedy tag. Sorry again for the trouble, and I assure you I meant no offense, Arky 15:47, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
- For a longer article, I would have, but I didn't realize how itchy some editors' trigger fingers are. Thanks for deleting the notice. Aelffin 15:51, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
- Heh, itchy indeed. I just downloaded NPWatcher, and it's a bit quick for me. I'll get used to it in time....thanks for the heads-up about my mistake! Cheers, Arky 15:53, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
- Just a suggestion, but, anything I write, that I might be upset to lose, or, that'd take more than 5 mins or so to redo, due to edit conflicts, and the unreliability of computers in general, I do in an external editor (I like Emacs, but, I'm odd)... Also, Generally, in an edit conflict, the original text you tried to submit, can be found in the text box at the bottom of the page (SEE: Help:Edit conflict). So, you really shouldn't have had to retranslate the whole article. HTH! --SQL 18:37, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
- What I usually do is select all the text I've edited, copy it, then hit save and if I get an edit conflict, I've still got my work on the clipboard. In this case, I must have forgotten or failed to properly hit "ctrl+c" because when I tried to paste it, I got my last clipboard save. I could have been more careful, Arknascar could have been more careful. Not a big deal, just a little extra work. Aelffin 21:45, 7 September 2007 (UTC)

Hey, No need to drop me a line on my talk page, I saw the argument on and followed the link to the article of the same name I created. - I appreciate your attempt to lighten up the encyclopedia, but please remember, we're writing an encyclopedia with encyclopedia content. If you want to write articles like that, I would suggest you go to Uncyclopedia, where things like that are commonplace and wanted. No harm done though, the article is deleted now, (but please try to write informative articles) Arky 19:37, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
