It will replace the National Football league which lasted for 11 seasons. The 2007/2008 season will be the first for the I League. The league was set to begin September 30 and end in mid February. But with FIFA changing the dates for the World Cup qualifiers, the first season of the I League will begin November 23.
The New Season 2007/2008
The 2007/2008 season will be the first for the I League. In the first season, the league will consist of two divisions, the I League 1st Division and I League 2nd Division. The 1st Division will consist of 10 teams from five different cities. Eight of the teams will come over from last years final NFL and two promoted teams from the 2nd Division.

Salgaocar SC and Viva Kerala are the two promoted teams from last years NFL.
