Cllr Miranda Agnes Jayne Grell (born circa 1978) is a Labour party politician and councillor for the London Borough of Waltham Forest. She is the first person to be found guilty of making false statements under the Representation of the People Act 1983.
Grell studied European Studies with Modern Languages at the University of Manchester and took a Master's degree in Industrial Relations from the London School of Economics. She is also on the 2007/8 committee of the think tank Compass. She works as a researcher for the Deputy Mayor of London, Nicky Gavron.
Grell won her seat in the May 2006 local elections on an unexpectedly large swing from the Liberal Democrats in a split result for her ward. However, in 2007, she went on trial on charges under the Representation of the People Act 1983 of making a false statement of fact about a candidate's personal character or conduct for electoral advantage, specifically that she made allegations of paedophilia against her gay Liberal Democrat opponent, Barry Smith. She was found guilty on two counts and fined. Unless she appeals against her sentence, she faces a three-year ban from holding public office and will vacate her seat. The Labour party suspended her from the party following the case pending an investigation.
She remains a councillor for Leyton ward, Waltham Forest, London but is suspended from performing any functions as a councillor.
