Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.
    Shortcuts

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

    Talk:Moon (edit | article | history | links | watch | logs)

Request semi-protection. Newly registered vandals are now defacing this page instead of the recently protected article itself. Nick Mks 16:06, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

    Melissa Farley (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

full protection. Edit warring; parties have agreed to mediate, but mediation process has yet to begin. Five-day full protect has just ended; protection should probably be extended at least until mediation process actually starts. Iamcuriousblue 15:50, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

    Radionics (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

full protection +expiry 3 days, Full protection: Dispute, This article needs to be protected due to significant edit warring. Constant reverts of reverts, etc. There must be discussion occurring not constant reverts. Please protect to prevent edit wars and allow time for discussing..Wikidudeman 15:39, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

remove The protection was placed by a sysop involved in a POV edit war. Either the sysop rethink and remove it or it must be reviewed at other level.Daoken 16:12, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

This isn't a vote. The protection was instituted because of edit warring and the fact that the originator of the edit war tried to recruit other editors in an attempt to avoid 3rr. Wikidudeman 16:13, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

    Orange Institution (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

full protection Full protection: Dispute, An article that stirs up a lot of passion and controversial views, which has seen team edit-warring for a few days now (and slower edit disputes for a longer time), involving many reverts to the main article etc despite warnings from other editors re: edit warring, 3RR, and other possible means of dispute resolution that are available. Lengthy discussions on the talk page, however this seems to take place as well as, rather than instead of, the edit warring. Suggest protection until those involved can take a step back and reach some consensus regarding the issues or go to WP:DR rather than edit-warring. .Liverpool Scouse 14:37, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

Edit war has stopped, no protection is needed. One Night In Hackney303 14:38, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
Comment - your comment is almost laughably premature - the last edit in the definite edit war was 40 mintues ago, and one of those involved has edited since, just one minute ago. Perhaps wait a while and determine the ongoing conduct of those involved before deciding it's over? Liverpool Scouse 14:43, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
I'll ignore your incivility. Have you not seen an admin posting on the article talk page and on the talk pages of the respective editors? Obviously that admin feels that is the best course of action rather than protecting the page, so this is tantamount to forum shopping. One Night In Hackney303 14:45, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
Declined Not an invitation to ramp it up, but it's not really that bad yet. ~ Riana 14:46, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

    John Stossel (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

full protection - edit warring, repeated insertion of poorly sourced derogatory material intending to discredit the integrity of a living person keeps getting inserted. A new editor with a single-purpose-account for editing this article openly says they will continue edit warring until stopped. Wikidemo 14:36, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

Pls note, this case is discussed on Misplaced Pages:Biographies of living persons/Noticeboard - Wikidemo 14:38, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

Mustafa Kemal Atatürk (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

semi protection Long term, please. The page has repeatedly been semi'd because of anons removing sourced information they disagree with. Recommend longest allowable semi protection. This appears to be an ongoing nuisance and problem as they will not discuss this on Talk. Perhaps this will encourage them to do so. • Lawrence Cohen 13:35, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

Semi-protected for a period of 2 weeks, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. - again, 12 hours is a very small period of protection, and this article was being vandalised quite a bit. -- Anonymous Dissident 12:36, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

    Current requests for unprotection

    Shortcuts

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin on their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page, click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page," which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page, please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected, please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

I wasn't involved in the edit war that locked the article and I would simply like to make a few small corrections and improvements, but too many to bother an admin with {{editprotected}} requests. The article's been locked for half a month and whatever led to its being locked isn't even being resolved on its talk page. Robert K S 04:41, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

    Done Made it a semi-protect instead. Jmlk17 06:45, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

    Simon Wessely (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

This page has been somewhat of a battleground in the past, having been blanked and protected by Jimbo in Nov 2005 for WP:BLP concerns. The debate was reignited when Alpinist (talk · contribs) made additions that were contested; the subsequent edit war led to protection on 18 September, with a short-term block for Alpinist and long discussions on the talkpage with several other users. The discussion has now died down, and I have no reason to believe that there will be further policy violations in the near future. Should that be the case, longer-term protection would be an option. Given the off-site coverage this page has received, I would suggest semi-protection instead. JFW | T@lk 13:57, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

Done Downgraded to semiprotection. ~ Riana 15:01, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

Current requests for significant edits to a protected page

    Shortcut

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Misplaced Pages:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Misplaced Pages:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. - just a couple of instances of vandalism today. And why did you ask for cascading? There seems to be no reason. Am I missing something, or have you not read WP:PROT? Regards, -- Anonymous Dissident 09:55, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

According to the logs, User:Can't sleep, clown will eat me protected the page because you were abusing Template:Unblock. And, AFAIK, you don't give out your name to register an account (au contraire, all you need is an alias you are happy with). -Jéské 02:38, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

    Wendy's (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) and KFC (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

semi-protect The Wendy's article just came off protection and the person who had vandalized it for weeks before the last protection session has started again with his fictional country (long and very stupid story). This anonymous user, who is going through various IP addresses, also did this same type of vandalism on the Kentucky Fried Chicken article. Could we please reinstate the protection on these articles so the editors that regularly patrol these articles do not have to keep erasing this guys constant vandalism? This is really a preemptive request as last time he vandalized the article daily or even hourly.

I really would like the protection to be permanent as fast food articles are generally fodder for vandalism.

Semi-protection - This has been requested (by me) for semiprotection before. The semiprotecting user told me to request again once sprotection expired if the level of IP vandalism surged again. This has been exactly what has happened. Since unsprotecting, most of the edits have been vandalism and reverting vandalism. Therefore, we should probably have sprotection again for a month or longer, though I'm not exactly sure. Regards, Ανέκδοτο 01:43, 2 October 2007 (UTC) 01:44, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
