Sibi (Urdu: سبی ) district was established in 1903. It is lying south of Loralai districts, north of the Upper Sind Frontier district, west of Dera Ghazi Khan district and east of Kachhi, Bolan Pass and Quetta- Pishin. The main mountains range are Zen, Bambore and Dungan. Sibi is variational district by physical and climatic compare to other districts of Baluchistan. It is also known as the "Hot spot" of Pakistan where the temperatures in the summer exceed far above normal over 50°C. The Sibi district has two sub-divisions, Sibi and Harnai, which are further organized into tehsils and sub-tehsils: Sibi, Harnai, Kutmandi and Sangan.

History

It was part of Ghaznavid Empire and was kept under the chief Nasiruddin Kubacha. In the early 15th century came under Shah Beg of Arghun Dynasty. Then it passed to Mir Chakar Khan Rind. In the 19th century it fell under Marris and Bugtis hand. To finish rebellion in the area, the British signed the Treaty of Gandamak in 1879. It was subdivided to create Nasirabad and Kohlu districts in 1974, Dera Bugti District in 1983, and Ziarat District in 1986. These new districts were considered part of the Sibi Division of Pakistan (except for Nasirabad) until 2000, when the third-tier "divisions" structure of government was dissolved.

Population

In 1901 the total population was 34,974. The 90% of the population were Muslims and 10% were Hindus. The major tribes of Sibi are Marri, Bugti, Barozai and Khajjak,and jamote. Today over 99% of its inhabitants are Muslims.
