The Glock 37 is a pistol manufactured by Glock. It is a Glock 17 modified to fire the .45 GAP ammunition. It uses a different slide, frame, barrel and magazine but is otherwise similar in looks to the Glock 17, having only a wider slide. It has a 10 round magazine capacity.

The .45 GAP ammunition was designed by Glock. It has nearly the same performance as the .45 ACP ammunition but is short enough to fit into smaller-framed pistols.

The Glock 37 first appeared in 2003, and is mainly available in the U.S. It was designed for law enforcement and self-defense use where its large caliber offers superior single shot stopping power, while avoiding the large frame size problems of the Glock 21.

Operators

In November 2006, the New York State Police announced that they were replacing the older 9 millimeter Glock 17 pistols their troopers currently carry, with the Glock 37 chambered for the .45 GAP cartridge. The State Police purchased 5,400 pistols at a cost of 2.2 million dollars (US). The troopers are expected to complete transitioning to the more powerful firearm by Spring 2007. On June 20, 2007, NY State Trooper Amanda Reif, wounded in the shoulder from a shotgun blast, shot and killed her assailant with one shot from her Glock 37.

The Georgia State Patrol also began issuing the Glock 37 pistol to its troopers in 2006.

The Pennsylvania State Police also now issue the Glock 37 and Glock 38.

The Reed City, Michigan Police Department currently issues the Glock 37.
