"Well Catered Funeral" |
---|
"Well Catered Funeral" is the fifth episode of Open All Hours first season.
Plot
Parslow, an old friend of Arkwright's (Ronnie Barker), has died. Arkwright not only is to attend the funeral, but he us also providing the catering for it (with no discount, of course). The catering tray is a problem to transport to the funeral, but Arkwright manages to place it inside the funeral car, below the coffin. Granville (David Jason) is happy because he is "in charge" while Arkwright is at the funeral. Not for too long, since Arkwright calls every ten minutes to see if the shop is doing well.
Arkwright has a bad time at the funeral, when the priest passes the tray asking for a donation. Nurse Gladys Emamnuel (Lynda Baron) is present, so he is obliged to give money away, but since he only has a pound note, he takes the rest of the poorbox as change.
Notes
When the tray is passed by, here are some of the appropriate lyrics from the hymn that the congregation is singing:
"...what I have I freely give
that my soul once more may live
our greed have put away..."
