Image:EU_map_names_isles.png
Hiya. I was wondering if in maps Image:EU_map_names_isles.png and Image:EU_blank_no_rivers_territories256.png you could perhaps update/fix them, so that the Republic of Macedonia is colored (and its name written) like an official candidate state. Thank you very much!
If you are not so involved with Misplaced Pages anymore, or otherwise don't have the time for this, then may I please ask that you email me the original Photoshop/Paintshop/whatever-program-you-used files so that I can perhaps more easily do the change myself? Thanks again and in advance! Aris Katsaris 08:24, 29 January 2006 (UTC)
- I'd also like to know which map you based Image:EU_blank_no_rivers_territories256.png on; I'd like to use it as a basis for a map for List of European Union member states, but the aliased borders make it impossible for me to colour states differently, so I'd like to have the original file if possible. Thanks for your help! —Nightstallion (?) 10:26, 29 January 2006 (UTC)
Move discussion at Lost
Hey, Zoney. I know that you're not that active any more, but I noticed that you'd edited just a few days ago so I thought I'd let you know that there's yet another Lost-related move discussion underway at Talk:Lost. This one is about whether Lost should be a disambiguation page (as it is currently) or a redirect to Lost (TV series), with the disambiguation content moved to Lost (disambiguation). Since you'd voted in earlier Lost-related move discussions, I thought you might be interested in this one. —Josiah Rowe (talk • contribs) 18:54, 1 February 2006 (UTC)

Hi, I noticed that you placed Bank of Ireland in the UK banks template, but last time I checked that bank was based in the Republic of Ireland. ABN Amro for example, is a bank that is active in the USA. Does that make it an American Bank? Billtheking 19:21, 23 February 2006 (UTC)

Passover
Hi Zoney, we're looking for editorial input on the appropriateness of the section "Passover in the Christian tradition," which was summarily excised by an editor and placed in a new article, called Passover in the Christian tradition. Knowing that you have contributed your thoughts on this matter in the past, I am inviting you to do so again. Fishhead64 06:00, 3 May 2006 (UTC)
Newtownmountkennedy
Hi, Thanks for updating the Irish name today, I was delighted to see that. One thing I've learned about WP is that if you create a stub for re-links, even if you don't know very much on the subject, it makes it more likely that others will add what they know. And NTMK is perfect evidence of that.--Rye1967 05:03, 13 June 2006 (UTC)
Names of European cities in other languages
Well done and thanks for restoring this useful article, as per the majority wish in the AfD discussion :-) – Kieran T 10:47, 29 June 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, we all applaud Zoney's wheel-warring. You could have waited until the deletion review finished. You'd have gotten the same result without slapping me in the face. Mackensen (talk) 12:16, 29 June 2006 (UTC)
- No insult to Mackensen intended from my point of view, and I'm sorry if my support of Zoney's action has offended you. I'm sure your deletion was thoroughly well-intentioned, despite happening to disagree with it. Thanks to you too, for your work. I must say though, I was horrified to learn that an article deletion also deletes the article's history. Perhaps administrators get to look back, but there's no obvious way for mere mortals to consult the history of deleted articles. I had no clear idea of the time and date you intended to delete the article, and so was unable to save a local copy of the ultimate version. – Kieran T 12:27, 29 June 2006 (UTC)
- I did not undelete the city names article just to spite you or something. I saw it referred to from an article (in a valid context), and having previously viewed the article, I was curious as to why it was red-linked.
- I checked the page, and was rather shocked to see a page of 2000+ edits deleted. Nevertheless, I assumed there was a deletion debate I had missed, so I checked out the deleted history (for some reason the talk page was left without a deleted notice pointing to the debate).
- Having seen that the deletion was applied under erroneous circumstances (there was no consensus to delete. Consensus may be a subjective thing, but it's certainly >50%), I undeleted. I would have posted to votes for undeletion if it had been validly deleted, but as its deletion had not been accepted on the Afd page, I didn't see that as necessary.
- Apologies for not posting you a notice.
- I think undeleting this may have been premature and out of process. It may have been better to wait for the Misplaced Pages:Deletion_review/Log/2006_June_28#Names_of_cities_in_different_languages DRV to run its course. Making an independent judgement that the deletion was wrong and acting unilaterally rather than taking it to DRV, (and then learning there is a DRV ongoing) may not be the best approach, it does smack of wheel warring a bit. But then I'm a bit of a process wonk so... ++Lar: t/c 14:12, 29 June 2006 (UTC)
- I considered the deletion "out of process", and as such, I considered it merely an operational matter to restore the page. Rest assured that in no circumstances would I have unilaterally restored a page that had indeed been voted for deletion on AFD. I had no knowledge that the deletion was the issue of some debate. In fact, the actual deletion debate itself was not posted to the deleted talk page, and I had to rely on the deleted history to find out what had happened. Having viewed the AfD page, the matter seemed straightforward. zoney ♣ talk 14:19, 29 June 2006 (UTC)
- Refactored the above comment from my talk, let's keep the thread together... (I do use watchlists and am watching this page) A few points. There is a process for contesting a deletion, it's called Deletion Review. Restoring something while that process is ongoing is probably not appropriate. Acting unilaterally sometimes is good but not when it overturns and wheelwars with another admin ths way. Second, AfD is not a vote. The nosecount is not the only measure of consensus. I happen to think Mackenson erred in deleting this, but my recourse (I am an admin as well) was not to undelete unilaterally, but rather to comment on the ongoing DrV that the close should be overturned and the articles undeleted. Your undeletion actually weakens the case for a proper undeletion, in my view, at least marginally. ++Lar: t/c 14:25, 29 June 2006 (UTC)
- My actions were wholly in process. The five days were past. I gave my reasons, closed the debate, and deleted the pages with links to the debate in the edit summaries. Whether you agree with the result does not affect whether the action was in process or not. The proper route to appeal was the one taken: Deletion Review. I wholly support David's listing there, and wonder why you thought this was insufficient. Mackensen (talk) 14:24, 29 June 2006 (UTC)
- My reason for action was that I considered the "result" to be absolutely in opposition to the closure action (patently absurd in fact - even if nosecount is not the main measure for AfD, one cannot possibly stretch "consensus" to mean "less than half those involved in the debate"). If I had merely disagreed with the result I would have indeed attempted to bring the article before Deletion Review (in this case, have contributed to the existing debate). zoney ♣ talk 14:31, 29 June 2006 (UTC)
- Apologies, having reviewed Misplaced Pages:Undeletion policy, it seems Misplaced Pages: Deletion Review should have indeed been my first port of call, even had I considered the deletion "out of process". zoney ♣ talk 14:40, 29 June 2006 (UTC)

British Isles
You might want to look at British Isles. A group of users have been pushing the claim that the term is exclusively geographic and have posted abusive edit summaries attacking any Irish person who edits the page to point out the complexity of the Ireland's relationship with the British Isles, accusing them of "Irish nationalist POV-pushing". Even when the sources they demanded are added it they still revert all the time. (One of them recently tried to delete any mention of the fact that Lough Neagh is on the island of Ireland. He only wanted it stated that it was in the British Isles!!! That is the nature of some of the editors' agendas.) The same users seem to be editing a set of pages to delete or downplay mention of Ireland. FearÉIREANN\ 13:11, 5 July 2006 (UTC)

JzG
This user will not quit. He has vandalized my talkpage numerous times over the past three days
- Today he deleted comments of other users with no explanation, protecting my talkpage without any justification, deleting my response to his harassment on my talkpage with the bizarre edit summary "Since you are saying goodbye, let's assume you mean it, eh?", and then leaving this threatening message to intimidate me into leaving.
Before that he vandalized my talkpage. Then when I reverted another user assumed he was right and reverted to JzG's version, but realized he was wrong and apologized. I was cordially and said it was alright. JzG has left numerous uncivil comments on my talkpage that can be viewed if one goes through the history of the page. He has also repeatedly been warned. Outer Ring Road, Waterford
Okay, I am really annoyed at you moving this page. Did it cross your mind that the article was given that title for a reason?
- The R710 is NOT the whole of the Waterford Ring Road, but merely 6.8km of the 7.8km of it.
- The Outer Ring Road, Waterford refers to two roads, what is the point of putting it in a article called the R710?
- I had put the proper links from 'R710' and 'R710 Road' to this page.
Did you even read the article?
I am going to revert back to what was there before. Thanks for wasting my time. Please note in the future that a single message to an editor who has produced an article, or a topic on the discussion page, can get things done without causing unnecessary work for people or annoying people!
If there is some aspect of this that isin't clear, send me a message!
- So there can't be an article on the outer ring road then? That's garbage!
- I referred to the fact that the R710 is often referred to as the outer ring road, not that it was the outer ring road. The outer ring road -- including the phase one -- is indicated as such the Waterford City Street Map, 2nd edition. What is the problem?
- Could you please tell me why you think that your edits and interpretations of wikipedia should be final? Are you aware that there are other editors?
- Shoehorning the outer ring road into an R710 article is simply inaccurate. If you want to talk about the R710, why can't it be done in a separate article? I wanted to create an article on the outer ring road, not the R710. Does this mean that you are going to delete an 'Outer Ring Road, Waterford' article now if I create one? Merlante 13:01, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
- Okay, that's fine, if the phase one section has been re-designated the R710. My OS Waterford City map indicates that it is not a regional route, which is why I say re-designated. As a matter of interest, where did you get this information from?
- (Otherwise it would have been incorrect to put both road sections in the R710 article. The outer ring road ought to have an article, because it's important to Waterford people. If it refers directly to the R710 then there is no problem calling the article the R710. Otherwise it should be named the 'outer ring road', which is what appears on maps, no matter how many road sections it is composed of.)
- All's well that ends well then I suppose. (Providing your reference checks out. ;) )
Okay Zoney, fair enough. :)
Good to know where all that information can be found.
No problem. I've been through the wars recently on wikipedia, and seeing my newest addition renamed, when I thought there was a real objection to it being renamed, put me back in that frame of mind. All I want to do is get things right, the same as yourself. Still, I might suggest that you drop me a message the next time; we'd have had this sorted out quicker and with less aggro I reckon. Thanks for your comments about my content. :) Merlante 13:46, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
- Just an FYI on your last comment. I was using the OSI Waterford City Street Map, 2nd Ed. It labels the new section of the road in blue & white shading, indicating a road under construction. It shades the phase one section in white, indicating an 'other road'. Both sections are called the outer ring road on the map.
- btw., I think the entire road may be 6.8km in total, since we've established that phase one is part of it. I estimated the 1km phase one from the map. (Which is why I said 'about'.) Must look into it. Merlante 13:52, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
- Again FYI, actually the article seems to be right the way it is about the 7.8km: indicates that the section between Farranshoneen and the Cork road is 6.8km. Merlante 14:00, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

Cork poll
I think I can be bold and close the poll, when it's not going to result in anything more than a repetion of the arguments we've seen before. I voted against moving, twice, but clearly that was a bad idea. The article is going to be moved, because there's not an admin yet that seems to think that moving it was wrong. What's the point in having a pretend vote when it won't matter anyway ? Far better to have a look at all the crap that links to Cork-the-city, and see if that's where it should link to. I have major doubts that that's the case with what I saw looking at the links to Cork City (now another dab page, used to be redirect). If you don't agree with me closing the poll, open it again. Bloody waste of time though. No point in crying over spilt milk. Angus McLellan (Talk) 22:34, 24 November 2006 (UTC)

Naming convention
I noticed you comments on the article on the DRC general elections and thought you might be interested in a proposal I have:
The current naming convention for elections is:
- Use the format "Demonym type election, date", for example "Canadian federal election, 1867"... (WP:NAME#Elections}
I propose this is changed to allow two alternatives, as follows:
- Use either this form: political division type election, date, or this form: political division election of date. For example, Canadian federal election, 1867 or Canadian federal election of 1867. Where an article has been created using one form, do not move the article to the other form.
This new option would make linking more natural and make the article names more encyclopedic.
Please comment on this proposal at Misplaced Pages talk:Naming conventions#New elections proposal

Category:Roads in Ireland
Just thought you should know, recently a user has taken it upon themselves to move all of the RoI N based roads out of the "Category:Roads in the Republic of Ireland", and into the "Category:Roads in Ireland", therefore making a mockery of the category hierarchy system. In addition they have added "Category:Roads in Ireland" to all the articles in the "National Primary Roads" template to said category as well, making even more category confusion in the categories and subcategories. Unfortunately the user that has made the alterations has publically stated that they refuse to be bound by the Misplaced Pages conventions and use the name "Republic of Ireland" at any point and doesn't recognise the term, which is a shame as other than this one point the user makes some very good edits. Thanks Zoney. The "no article yet" category was because someone had put a list of roads with no article related to them on the page - I didn't want to delete them. Hi, regarding the discussion of this image on Misplaced Pages:Possibly unfree images. I deleted the image because, even though you made it yourself, it is an almost exact copy of a copyrighted (not under a free license) work. In case Image:Derry arms 2003.png. I also put it for deletion at Commons, on which you are of course welcome to comment. See Commons:Commons:Deletion requests/Image:Derry.Shield.png. Garion96 (talk) 15:45, 1 July 2007 (UTC)
Discussion you might be interested in
Based on your having voted on whether the article Carrantuohill should be moved to Carrauntoohil back in November 2005, I figured you might be interested in joining the discussion on Talk: Galteemore on whether the article Galteemore should be moved to Galtymore Mountain. R293
Article on the r293 road is posted up now, I had wanted to get the page away from redirecting to the 'regional road' page, hence the alteration I had done previously. Owenmoresider 22:28, 12 October 2007 (UTC)
