Byzantine Navy

The Byzantine navy, like the Byzantine Empire itself, was a continuation of the earlier Roman model

Organization

The Imperial fleet at Constantinople was called the Basilikon Ploimon.

Men for this fleet were provided by the naval themes Kibyrrhaioton and Aigiaon Pelagon. Additionally, these themes maintained fleets in their own region.

The Opsikion and Thrakesion themes also maintained small fleets.

Ships

They had dromons, the other kind, the big kind, that small galley, and the other one.

Technology

They had Greek fire.
