The Glock 34 is a 9 mm pistol designed and manufactured by Glock. It is a combat competition shooting pistol with a standard magazine capacity of 17 rounds of ammunition. It is similar to both the Glock 17 and the now-discontinued Glock 17L. The receiver and magazine are interchangeable with those of the Glock 17. The slide and barrel, however, are longer than those of the Glock 17.

The Glock 34 has become very popular in IPSC shooting competitions because of its simple controls, adjustable sights, high durability and moderate price along with good accuracy. It is also very popular in IDPA competitions, as its longer barrel improves accuracy while meeting size limitations, while the lighter, less powerful 9mm cartridge makes for faster reacquisition of a target, and thus faster split times between shots.

Glock also manufactures a competition pistol utilizing Smith & Wesson's .40 caliber round. Known as the Glock 35, the .40 caliber pistol is identical to the Glock 34 in every aspect except the caliber.

Unique Features

Several features exist on the Glock 34 and its .40 caliber brother the Glock 35 that are not found on any other pistol in the Glock family. Because the Glock 34 is marketed to competition shooters, Glock has taken steps to improve the performance of the Glock 34 under competition conditions.

Slide release

The slide release, a lever used to facilitate reloading, is extremely large when compared to the slide release of the average Glock pistol. This makes the release much easier to manipulate while making it harder to accidentally "miss" the release under the stress of competition.

Slide cutout

The top of the slide sports a cutout roughly two inches long and a half inch across. This cutout serves to improve the balance of the pistol by removing some of the unnecessary steel, and to make the slide roughly the same weight as the Glock 17 slide so that functionality with the same recoil spring is ensured.

Trigger pull

The Glock 34 and 35 come standard with a roughly one pound lighter trigger pull than other Glock pistols. The lighter trigger makes it easier to fire consistent and accurate shots.
