The Naked Brothers Band is a mocumentary television series with a comedic twist about a kids rock band. The TV series began February 3, 2007.
Plot
The plot is based around 11-year-old Nat and 8-year-old Alex, who are members of a rock band called The Naked Brothers Band. They deal with issues like sibling rivalry, girls, music, and peer relationship throughout the series. The show is shot in reality style, with the characters aware that the cameras are following them.
Character Description
- Nat Wolff is the lead vocals, keyboardist, songwriter. He is known as "The Girl Magnet" and is known for being very mature. Has a noticeable crush on bassist Rosalina throughout the series and tries to impress her often.
- Alex Wolff is the drummer. He is the hyperactive one in the band and girls go crazy for his curly hair. He loves skateboarding and wants to become a professional one day. He wears socks tied around his ankles and a red, white, and blue do-rag on his head. He's "milkaholic" and wears different kinds of fake tattoos.
- Thomas Batuello is the cellist. He likes tie-dying his tongue with different flavored popsicles and is the one coming up with all the biggest pranks.
- David Levi is the keyboardist. He is the politest member of the band, but always joins in on one of Thomas' pranks.
- Qaasim Middleton is the guitarist. He is known as the smartest band member of the group and is good with the ladies.
- Cooper Pillot is the band manager. He tries to behave as much as an adult as possible and is overwhelmed by all of the commands of his job.
- Rosalina is the bassist. She always denies the fact that she and Nat are boyfriend and girlfriend and he thinks that some of the boys' pranks are immature.
- Mr. Wolff (Dad) is a geeky accordion player. He acts like a kid and has performed at the Hoboken Rathskeller restaurant. He sometimes tries to get in one of the bands music videos, and is currently dating Betty, who was supposed to be the maid in A Man Needs A Maid.
- Jesse Cook is the babysitter and the tutor. Unfortunately, she is not smart enough for the job, but luckily Rosalina and Qaasim are there to help her. Alex calls her his girlfriend and wears seven different kinds of tattoos.
- Betty is part of Mr. Wolff's two-member band The Honey Bunnies. Which no one likes their music, especially their costumes.
- The Director speaks and looks like Borat. He directs the band's music videos. He always talks about his country, that nobody knows of.
Background and Production
When Nat and Alex were young, one day they announced, "We’re the Naked Brothers Band!" while dancing naked around their apartment after a bath. They formed a band in preschool with Nat's best friends.
The brothers real-life mother Polly Draper (best known for her role as Ellyn Warren on the 1987–91 show thirtysomething is the director, writer, creator, and executive producer of the show. And their father, Michael Wolff, (who was the band-leader for The Arsenio Hall Show, from 1989–94) is the co-executive producer and music supervisor. He stars as the brothers' geeky father, who plays the accordion and would do anything to be in the band.
This is Draper's first time directing. Her first time screenwriting was in 1999 with The Tic Code. The film was both informed by Wolff's struggles with Tourette Syndrome and his love for the jazz piano.
An executive producer of the series said he thought the brothers would be big when he watched 'The Naked Brothers Band: The Movie at the Hamptons International Film Festival. They're just real. Real brothers, real friends..... it's all the stuff kids do when they're hanging out on the playground. The idea that you're watching a documentary is so much fun. Then you put them into that fantasy of being a world-famous rock band, and that's the sauce that makes it work.
Their online videos have been played by fans more than 11 million times in October 2006. Two months later, one of those watchers recognized Nat and Alex in a Florida hotel. She sent them a note, "Are you the Naked Brothers?" They were so excited, Ms. Draper said. "The show hasn't even aired yet and now walking down the streets kids are calling out their names. They can't believe it."
