This is a list of characters appearing in the video game series Crash Bandicoot. It contains details on their appearances in the titles, who they are voiced by, whether they are a protagonist or antagonist and other relevant information.

Main protagonists

Crash Bandicoot

Main article: Crash Bandicoot (character)

Crash Bandicoot (voiced by Brendan O' Brien, Steven Blum, and Jess Harnell in the English language releases and by Kappei Yamaguchi and Makoto Ishii in Japanese) is the protagonist of the series. Once an ordinary bandicoot, he was subjected to the experiments of Dr. Neo Cortex and Dr. Nitrus Brio by mutation with the Evolvo-Ray and placement in the Cortex Vortex with the intention to serve as a Cortex Commando. However, the machine rejected him, leaving him to flee the lab soon after, triggering the events of the first Crash game.

He is of adequate intelligence and muscle and has a foolish personality. During the events of Crash 1, Crash was only armed with a spin attack and his jumping prowess, but in successive games, Crash often comes equipped with various other abilities; these have included a slide attack, belly flop, and high jump. His favorite food is Wumpa Fruit, which bears a resemblance to a red and yellow apple.

Coco Bandicoot

Main article: Coco Bandicoot

Coco Bandicoot (voiced by Vicki Winters, Hynden Walch, Debi Derryberry, Haruna Ikezawa, Ema Kogure, Satomi Arai, and Risa Tsubaki) is Crash's younger sister. With different brain and muscle prowess from her brother, Coco is a genius who frequently manages a laptop. In Crash Bandicoot 2, she made her debut as a sufficient character, advising Crash throughout his adventure. She became a playable character in Crash Bandicoot 3, spending most of her levels operating a vehicle. Alongside her hacking skills, she is a big fan of Kung-Fu movies, showing off a karate kick and a stomp powerful enough as to create a shockwave, both revealed in Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex.

Aku Aku

Main article: Aku Aku

Aku Aku (voiced by Brendan O'Brien, Mel Winkler, Greg Eagles, and Kenichi Ogata) is a witch doctor spirit of N. Sanity Island. To obstruct Cortex's plot for world domination, he advises Crash and Coco during their mission and also protects them; when he is summoned three times in a row, he can grant them temporary invincibility. It is not until Crash Bandicoot 3 that Aku Aku is seen speaking fluent English.

Polar

Polar (voiced by Debi Derryberry, and Satomi Kōrogi) is Crash's pet polar bear cub. He helps Crash through the Arctic levels in Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back and is a playable character in Crash Team Racing and hidden character in Crash Nitro Kart. He also has a minor role in Crash Bandicoot Purple: Ripto's Rampage in the polar bear racing levels, which are similar to the ones found in Crash Bandicoot 2, but are from a side perspective.

Pura

Pura (voiced by Paul Greenberg, Taeko Kawata, and Asuka Tanii) is Coco's pet tiger cub. He helps Coco navigate the Great Wall of China in Warped, and he is a playable character in Crash Team Racing, Crash Nitro Kart and Crash, Boom, Bang!. In Crash Team Racing he was available from the start, but in Crash Nitro Kart he was a hidden character. However, he was not playable in the Game Boy Advance version of the game.

Crunch Bandicoot

Main article: Crunch Bandicoot

Crunch Bandicoot (voiced by Kevin Michael Richardson, Chris Williams, Yūji Kishi, Masafumi Kimura, and Shinya Fukumatsu) was originally a superweapon created by Doctor Neo Cortex, made for the sole purpose of destroying Crash Bandicoot. He has had a change of heart since then, and he now works with the Bandicoots.

Main antagonists

Doctor Neo Cortex

Main article: Doctor Neo Cortex

Doctor Neo Cortex (voiced by Brendan O'Brien, Clancy Brown, Lex Lang, Shōzō Iizuka, and Yōsuke Akimoto) is a balding mad scientist with a giant 'N' on his head. Each time he attempts a sinister plot for world domination, Crash always obstructs him one way or another, much to his disgust. His ultimate dream is to retire to a beach with a woman at his side.

Nina Cortex

Nina Cortex (voiced by Susan Silo, Amy Gross, Debi Derryberry, Satomi Kōrogi, and Chihiro Kusaka) is Doctor Neo Cortex's niece, with mechanical arms that are used to grab on to things and punch enemies, and apparent goth mannerisms. She was developed for Crash Nitro Kart when it was being developed by Traveller's Tales, and then used in Crash Twinsanity as a playable character. She is also a playable character in Crash Tag Team Racing, and the main antagonist in Crash of the Titans, replacing her uncle very early in the game.

Nina made her first appearance in Crash Bandicoot Purple: Ripto's Rampage. She is seen having incredible running prowess, being able to keep up with Polar for a good length of time without showing signs of fatigue. In Crash Twinsanity, Crash Bandicoot and Neo Cortex go to the Academy of Evil to find her so that she can help them save the world. After Cortex finds her, she must make her way through the rooftops to get out of the school. During the game she is kidnapped by Crash's evil counterpart, named Evil Crash, in another dimension, but in the end she is able to help defeat the Evil Twins. In contrast to her previous appearance, she does not display much personality, not speaking at all throughout the game (with the exception of a single "Huh?" in the final cutscene).

In Crash Tag Team Racing, Nina Cortex's personality is radically different from her portrayal in Ripto's Rampage. In this game, she is seen attempting to obliterate the Bandicoots with Doctor Cortex and Doctor N. Gin. Also, in the same game, Nina is disliked to the extreme by Coco Bandicoot, who has a rivalry against her. Nina, on the other hand, doesn't appear to hold anything specific against her female opposite. She looks the same way when she appeared in Twinsanity, except her height has changed, making her shorter. At one point in the game, Nina gets a part-time job in order to purchase the Angsterator car, going as far as to practically begging Crash to help her get the job.

Nina is normally depicted as easily annoyed and has a pessimistic look on life, much like a stereotypical Goth. However, she is depicted quite differently in Crash Bandicoot Purple: Ripto's Rampage, having a childish speaking pattern, referring to herself in the third person, and calling Spyro a "purple puppy". Nevertheless, she doesn't appear to notice the intense grudge Coco holds against her, let alone know that she exists.

In Crash of the Titans, Nina takes over Cortex's plan once Uka replaces Cortex. She has minions called Brat girls, who are basically mimics of her. Uka Uka replaces Neo Cortex with Nina after growing tired of his incompetence. Nina managed to brainwash Coco during the adventure. She eventually battles Crash in a giant spider robot body, her way of "if you want something done right".

Uka Uka

Main article: Uka Uka

Uka Uka (voiced by Clancy Brown, Alex Fernandez, John DiMaggio, and Ryūzaburō Ōtomo) is the power above Cortex and his minions. Despite being twin brothers with Aku Aku, they are exact opposites. Ever since Aku Aku imprisoned him long ago, he has always advised Cortex's plots for world domination, but now he is free because of Cortex's failure in Cortex Strikes Back. He is apparently of equal power to his brother.

Dingodile

Main article: Dingodile

Dingodile (voiced by William Hootkins, Dwight Schultz, Nolan North, Keisuke Ishida, and Hajime Iijima) is a follower of Cortex, created by the fusion of a stray dingo and a crocodile. It is unknown who Dingodile's creator is, as it has been stated to be both Dr. Cortex and Dr. N. Brio on separate occasions. Dingodile always sports a large flamethrower wherever he goes. He supposedly opened up a pet shop at the end of Crash Team Racing.

Tiny Tiger

Main article: Tiny Tiger

Tiny Tiger (voiced by Brendan O'Brien, John DiMaggio, Chris Williams, Nolan North, Fumihiko Tachiki, and Masafumi Kimura) is a follower of Cortex. He is considerably strong, but he is very unintelligent, usually speaking in third person whenever he refers to himself. He sometimes attacks with a spear, as evidenced in Warped and The Huge Adventure.

Doctor N. Gin

Main article: Doctor N. Gin

Doctor N. Gin (voiced by Brendan O'Brien, Corey Burton, Quinton Flynn, Nolan North, Kazuhiro Nakata, and Mitsuru Ogata) is a defense industry physicist-turned-cyborg, with half of his face encased in metal and a missile lodged into his head. He became Cortex's right hand man in Cortex Strikes Back and has been so since, apparently a school friend of his. His name is an obvious pun of the word "engine". In Crash Tag Team Racing, N. Gin has a masochistic, bipolar, depressive and effeminate personality.

Doctor Nefarious Tropy

Doctor Nefarious Tropy (voiced by Michael Ensign, Corey Burton, Masaru Ikeda, and Haruo Satō), or N. Tropy for short, is the self-proclaimed master of time and quantum warp technology. He is an acquaintance of Uka Uka, called upon the latter to help take over the world in Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped. It is commonly stated that he can be seen causing time paradoxes for laughs.

N. Tropy made his debut in Warped as the third boss in the game. Upon his defeat, the Time Twister Machine fell into disarray, trapping Cortex, Tropy, and Uka Uka in a time prison and morphing the first two into infants. N. Tropy plays a minor role in Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex, in which he attends Uka Uka's bad guy convention. He acts as an obstacle throughout the levels in the game. N. Tropy's latest appearance in the main series was in Crash Twinsanity as the fifth boss alongside Doctor Nitrus Brio when they, using the vast resources from Doctor N. Gin's company, hunted for treasure. They were easily thwarted by Spyro the Dragon. It seems now that N. Tropy is no longer working aside the likes of Cortex, but instead working with N. Brio, although still on the same side as Uka Uka.

In Crash Bandicoot 2: N-Tranced, N. Tropy is entrusted by Uka Uka with the task of aiding him in universal domination. To do this, N. Tropy kidnaps Coco and Crunch, as well as Fake Crash, who he believes to be the real Crash. He then enlists N. Trance to hypnotise them into joining him. However, Crash manages to turn the bandicoots back to normal, before defeating N. Trance and N. Tropy. In the kart racing games Crash Team Racing and Crash Nitro Kart, N. Tropy is master of the relic races, and can be unlocked by beating all his ghosts in Time Trial mode. N. Tropy has a cameo appearance in Crash Boom Bang! in the "Silhouette Quiz" minigame.

Tropy is, needless to say, a nefarious and smug character as opposed to the short temper of Doctor Cortex, with a smooth British accent to match. He appears to be the smartest out of all the doctors, but he tends to get frustrated when he repeatedly misses his target, and as a result tires easily. This usually works to Crash's advantage and results in Tropy's many defeats to the hands of the bandicoot.

The creators of Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped have stated that because the plot of Warped involved time travel, a time travelling boss was called for. This led to Nefarious Tropy's initial creation. Tropy's shortened name is a pun on the term "entropy", a measurement of chaos, randomness, and disorder.

Other characters (Main series)

Doctor Nitrus Brio

Doctor Nitrus Brio (voiced by Brendan O'Brien and Mitsuru Ogata), or N. Brio for short, is the former henchman of Doctor Neo Cortex. After the events of the first game, he is seen working against Cortex in one game, and working on his own accord in his latest appearance.

Like most of the characters in the series, Brio's age is uncertain, though a piece of Twinsanity concept art suggests that Brio is the same age as Cortex and N. Gin.

Doctor Nitrus Brio is the first person that Doctor Neo Cortex swayed to his side. Brio, like Cortex, studied at Madame Amberly's Academy of Evil where the first Evolvo-Ray was designed. Prone to random fits of stuttering and giggling, his lack of self-esteem let Cortex take credit for the Evolvo-Ray that Brio perfected. While he is initially loyal to Cortex, he does have his doubts over whether Cortex's plans can actually work. He was the penultimate boss in the original Crash Bandicoot. However, the uncredited creator of the Evolvo-Ray is betrayed by Cortex and resigns from his position. Afterwards, he (according to the epilogue) rediscovered his true passion for bartending. No reference has been made to this epilogue in later games. Nitrus Brio reappeared in Cortex Strikes Back, hiring Ripper Roo and creating the Komodo Brothers and Tiny Tiger to assassinate Crash Bandicoot to keep him from gathering the Power Crystals for Cortex. Once Crash has collected 42 gems, Brio destroys Cortex's space station and disappears, even though he asks Crash to activate his ray gun.

In Crash Bash, for the contest between good and evil, Brio is summoned by Uka Uka to play for the side of evil. It is hinted in the PAL version of the instruction manual that he may have been the creator of Dingodile. Brio did not return again until Crash Twinsanity, when he teamed up with Doctor Nefarious Tropy to defeat Cortex and gain the Evil Twins' treasure. He appears alongside Tropy in a boss fight, immediately following Crash's escape from N. Gin's battleship, in which Brio (after being instructed by N. Tropy to "get changed") drinks a potion to transform himself into a large, green frog-like monster. He then appeared (in his human form) alongside N. Tropy and N. Gin again in the Evil Twins' fortress, claiming the treasure for themselves. However, they were thwarted by Spyro, who had been trapped in the Twins' vault. In this game, he remains mute, and his only response to another character is nodding in reply to N. Tropy.

Unlike the psychopathic Doctor Neo Cortex, Nitrus Brio is far from evil in intentions. He is Cortex's lone voice of reason in the first game of the series, but because of his supposedly low self-esteem, his words often go unnoticed by the ignorant Doctor Cortex, who only cares about making more mutated soldiers despite past failures. Brio in his human form is not very powerful physically, relying on a numerous array of potions as a means of attack or increasing his own power level. In the first Crash Bandicoot game, Brio initially attacks by tossing two distinct kinds of potions contained in beakers; his green beakers, upon destruction, release a medium-sized sentient blob that'll hop after the intended target, and red beakers explode upon contact with the ground. By consuming a mix of the two beakers, Brio can transform into a large, muscular, green creature with superhuman strength. Brio uses a similar mix to transform into a large, frog-like creature as a means to combat Crash in Crash Twinsanity. Brio is known to occasionally use a raygun similar to Doctor Cortex's in the party game Crash Bash, though this is the only game in which he uses one.

Brio's name is a play on the word "embryo". He was created by Naughty Dog as a foil for Doctor Cortex; "meek to Cortex's strength, logical to Cortex's emotional, successful to Cortex's failure".

Lab Assistants

The Lab Assistants are subordinates of Cortex, their sole job being to hinder Crash and his friends on their mission. All Lab Assistants mainly wear their trademark circular eyeglasses and lab coats. However, their attire may change depending on the current stage. It is revealed in Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped that they are androids.

Tawna

Tawna (voiced by Akiko Toda) was Crash Bandicoot's original girlfriend, her original appearance being a blonde-haired bandicoot with denim shorts and a red T-shirt (pink in Crash Boom Bang!). She was cut after the first game because she had an over-exaggerated sex appeal that Naughty Dog didn't find suitable for younger players. After Crash saved her in the first installment, it was stated that she had dumped Crash for Pinstripe later on (as an excuse for her to not appear again) and didn't appear in the Crash series again until Crash Boom Bang! (in which she became playable). She also had a cameo role in Crash Twinsanity on a sign for the Moulin Cortex, which may be a parody of her controversial role in the first Crash game. She also features in Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped and in Crash Nitro Kart in a picture at Crash's house (signifying that he still thinks about her).

Papu Papu

Papu Papu (voiced by Brendan O'Brien, Dwight Schultz and Yū Shimaka) is the obese chief of the natives of N. Sanity Island. He is neither on Crash's side nor on Cortex's side, but will attempt to capture or eat anything that trespasses into his territory.

When Crash Bandicoot first washed up onto N. Sanity Island in the first game, Papu Papu and his people attempted to take him in as their food, but Crash is able to speed through the mob on hog-back and defeat Papu Papu, rendering him unconscious long enough for him to escape. The game's epilogue explains that Papu Papu sold the ruins of Neo Cortex's burnt-down castle to a resort developer, and used the proceeds to open a "Big & Tall" shop on the island. This part of the epilogue, however, can not be considered canon, as the castle is seen intact in future games (notably Cortex Strikes Back and Nitro Kart). In Crash Twinsanity, Papu Papu attempts to sacrifice Cortex to one of their totem gods, but when Crash intervenes and botches the sacrifice, Papu Papu orders his people to capture Crash, but they once again prove to be unsuccessful.

Papu Papu appears as a boss character in Crash Team Racing, in which it is revealed that he is capable of speaking English. After the character has won all of the trophies in the Lost City, Papu Papu appears and expresses both his extreme boredom of watching "puny slugs race so slow" and his desire to join in on the action and prove that he is the world's best driver. When the character defeats Papu Papu in a one-on-one race, Papu Papu attributes his loss to not eating a big enough breakfast. He then praises the character's speed despite his/her small size, and gives the character the second boss key of the game, warning him/her of the much grumpier Nitros Oxide. Papu Papu can be unlocked as a playable character by winning the Green Gem in Adventure mode. The game's epilogue states that Papu Papu joined the Wild Wrestling Association under the moniker "Mister Bad Belly". His signature move, the "Bad Belly Bounce", was banned after three of his opponents suffered from severe rope friction burns.

Papu Papu appears as the first boss in the party game Crash Bash. Here, he is able to magically summon miniature Crash Bandicoots to fight for him, and laughs when they are defeated. Papu Papu is vulnerable to attack at this point, allowing the character to hit him with a crate of any kind. When this process is repeated two more times, Papu Papu is crushed by a falling rock.

Papu Papu was originally created by Naughty Dog as an opportunity to animate jiggling fat.

Ripper Roo

Ripper Roo (voiced by Katsumi Suzuki) is a mutated kangaroo, and one of the first "Cortex Commandos" introduced in the series, making his debut in the first Crash Bandicoot game. He was also Cortex's least successful subject; one or two zaps from the Evolvo-Ray too many has caused this creature to become erratic, violent, and not-all-there. After he was quickly defeated in the first game, he developed another personality, as seen in Crash Bandicoot 2.

Ripper Roo was one of the first evil mutants introduced in the series. Making his debut as the second boss in the first Crash Bandicoot, he was easily defeated by Crash in a waterfall battle. According to the epilogue, Ripper Roo underwent intense therapy and eight years of higher education after his defeat at the hands of the Bandicoot, and soon went on to write a critically-acclaimed book. This may be the reason for Ripper Roo's split-personality in the sequel, although Crash Bandicoot 2 takes place a year after the first game, making the epilogue somewhat inaccurate. In Crash Bandicoot 2, he attempts to fight Crash again, but once again fails, falling victim to his own explosives. Ripper Roo makes a cameo appearance in Crash Twinsanity at Crash's "birthday party".

Ripper Roo appears in Crash Team Racing as the first boss and can be unlocked as a playable character by winning a Red Gem in Adventure Mode. The game's epilogue states that Ripper Roo was elected state governor (to everyone's surprise), gaining public support with the slogan "Crazy is as crazy does!" (this slogan is a reference to a similar catchphrase found in the film Forrest Gump). Ripper Roo also appears in the Crash Bash minigame "El Pogo Loco", in which he sets TNT and Nitro tiles on the field.

Due to over-exposure to the Evolvo-Ray, Ripper Roo is demented and (literally) hopping mad. He does not speak throughout the entire series, instead giggling maniacally. Ripper Roo's voice consists of sound clips of the hyena's laughter in Disney's 1955 film Lady and the Tramp. This laughter has since been used in other productions, such as the Will Ferrell film Elf, the movie V for Vendetta and the animated television series Catscratch. Interestingly, Ripper Roo is capable of speech in the Japanese dub of Crash Team Racing., and was even planned to speak properly in the English version as well. In Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back, Roo has become fascinated with literature, with a numerous amount of books found in his lair during the boss battle against him. In this state, he uses his cane to move around rather than his own feet. But usually, it takes a large explosion to revert Ripper Roo to his old, maniacal state. He is only seen in his "biblophile" stage in Crash Bandicoot 2 and Crash Bash.

Ripper Roo was created by Naughty Dog to show the dangers of the Cortex Vortex in a humorous way. He also provided an opportunity for the animators to use overlapping action.

Koala Kong

Koala Kong is one of Cortex's earliest mutants, appearing as the third boss of the original Crash Bandicoot. He is a large, muscular koala whose primary diet consists of Eucalyptus tree trunks. During the creation of Kong, Doctor Cortex dedicated "way too many protons to the muscle department and too few to the brains." This quote suggests that Koala Kong is of a similar personality to his spiritual successor, Tiny Tiger. Besides this information, Kong shows very little personality throughout the series.

In Crash Bandicoot, Koala Kong fights Crash in a mine located inside a lava cave. His sole attack involves tossing large boulders in Crash's direction. In the game's epilogue, it is stated that Koala Kong moved to Hollywood to become a movie star, and now has a speech therapist to improve his diction. This epilogue would have been referenced in Crash Twinsanity, in which he would've had a speaking role. The scene he was set to appear in was deemed too complicated to accomplished, and thus his only appearance in Twinsanity is a brief cameo in Crash's "birthday party".

After supposedly taking a break on the South Seas, Koala Kong returned to Doctor Cortex in the party game Crash Bash, in which Kong plays on Uka Uka's team. He attacks with a powerful kick in the "Crate Crush" levels, and can throw just as far as Tiny. Crash Bash serves as Kong's only "speaking role", with Kong emitting loud roaring noises in the game. Unlike the other characters, these roars were kept in the Japanese version (the other characters had voice-overs).

Pinstripe Potoroo

Pinstripe Potoroo (voiced by Brendan O'Brien, Kazuhiro Yamaji, and Takahiro Yoshino) (real name "Pinstripelli Potorotti") is a boss character in the original Crash Bandicoot. He is a potoroo dressed in a Mafia suit and armed with a fully-loaded Tommy gun. His appearance and mannerisms are based on those of Michael Corleone; according to Naughty Dog, Pinstripe was created after a designer watched The Godfather on cable.

In the first Crash Bandicoot game, Pinstripe is the chief executive officer of Cortex's "Cortex Power" toxic waste dump. When Crash battles and defeats him, Pinstripe accidentally shoots out the core of Cortex Power, causing the dump to fall into disrepair. The game's epilogue states that Pinstripe moved to Chicago to, ironically, found a city-wide sanitation company, in hopes of later running for governor. Pinstripe also appears as an attendee of Crash's "birthday party" in Crash Twinsanity.

Pinstripe appears as a boss racer in Crash Team Racing. After the character has won all the trophies in Citadel City, Pinstripe appears and claims that it is he who will save the world, but not without a "sizable fee". When the character defeats Pinstripe in a one-on-one race, Pinstripe reluctantly hands the player the fourth and last Boss Key, allowing the character to face Oxide. Pinstripe can be unlocked as a playable character by winning the Yellow Gem in Adventure Mode. The game's epilogue states that Pinstripe became a successful used car salesman after the events of the game, partly thanks to his gun.

Pinstripe also appears as a playable character in the party game Crash, Boom, Bang!.

Komodo Brothers

Komodo Moe & Komodo Joe (voiced by Wataru Takagi) are samurai Komodo Dragons who appear as bosses in Cortex Strikes Back. Moe attacks by tossing scimitars, while Joe performs a spin attack. Joe also appears as a boss racer in Crash Team Racing and can be unlocked as a playable character by winning a Blue Gem in Adventure Mode. In Crash Bash, the brothers make a boss appearance in a tank level. The Komodo Bros have also made various cameo appearances on several paintings throughout the Crash games.

Penta Penguin

Penta Penguin is a penguin from the Crash Bandicoot series, and the only one thus far to actually have a name. His only confirmed role was in Crash Team Racing, where he appears as a hidden character, unlockable only by code. A similar penguin, which may or may not have been him, was seen in Warped being attacked by Dingodile before Crash fought him, and later in Bash as an obstacle in one of the levels. Penta himself is based on the penguin enemies that frequently occur in Cortex Strikes Back.

Fake Crash

Fake Crash (voiced by Dwight Schultz and Kappei Yamaguchi) is a bandicoot with thick eyebrows and a noticeable overbite. He first appeared in Warped, making cameo appearances in several levels. It wasn't until N-Tranced that he was given a proper role as a villain. However, near the end of the game, he turned good, and actually helped Crash defeat N. Trance. He also reappeared in Crash Nitro Kart and Crash Team Racing as an unlockable racer and in Crash Bandicoot Carnival, the Japanese Crash Bash.

Baby T

Baby T is a Tyrannosaurus cub found obviously on the prehistoric levels of Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped. Despite the fact that Crash took him home after the events of Warped, Baby T is never seen or mentioned again in future games.

Elementals

The Elementals are a group of renegade masks that ravaged the Earth many eons ago. They were brought back from hibernation in Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex, which is their only appearance in the series to date. Each of the Elementals correspond with the four classical elements: Rok-Ko (voiced by Thomas F. Wilson and Toshiaki Kuwahara) with Earth, Wa-Wa (voiced by R. Lee Ermey and Kappei Yamaguchi) with Water, Py-Ro (voiced by Mark Hamill and Toshitaka Shimizu) with Fire, and Lo-Lo (voiced by Jess Harnell and Masaru Ikeda) with Air. Each one can cause different natural disasters depending on their element.

According to a story Uka Uka tells in the instruction manual of Wrath of Cortex, the Elementals wreaked havoc in the world and its inhabitants. The Ancient Ancestors fought a brave battle against the Elementals, and managed to imprison them in Power Crystals. This hibernation state would last for millennia. Several years later, the Elementals are revived by Uka Uka and Doctor Neo Cortex, who are in need of a power source for Cortex's new secret weapon, Crunch Bandicoot. The presence of the Elementals is felt everywhere on the globe, as earthquakes ravage the coastlines, volcanoes erupt, and tsunamis end the Bandicoots' vacation short. When Aku Aku attempts to find out what he is planning, the Elementals attempt to destroy Aku Aku with their combined forces, but Aku Aku escapes. When Crash attempts to stop the Elementals and Crunch, each of the Elementals give their power to Crunch, increasing his Elemental powers. However, they are still no match for Crash, who collects the Power Crystals and returns the Elementals to their hibernation state.

Due to their relatively short amount of screen-time, the Elementals aren't explored into detail in terms of character, giving the player only a slight understanding of each Elemental's personality. Rok-Ko has somewhat of a bully-esque personality, talking tough and calling Crash names. Wa-Wa's personality and voice are based on that of a stereotypical gunnery sergeant, being aggressive and loud-mouthed. Py-Ro appears unstable and pyromanic, and Lo-Lo is apparently the joker of the group.

The Elementals are capable of causing intense natural disasters based on their respective element. Furthermore, they are capable of transferring their energy to whoever can use the masks, as demonstrated in each of the boss fights against Crunch. Rok-Ko has the power over earth-related disasters, such as earthquakes and landslides. He enables Crunch to turn himself into a large boulder in order to combat Crash and his Atlasphere. During the final boss fight, he causes large rocks to fall from the sky. Wa-Wa has the power over water-related disasters, such as intense rain and tsunamis (which usually leads to floods, as seen in the level "Tsunami"). He transforms Crunch into a being made entirely of water, and doubles his size. During the final boss fight, he causes large ice balls to appear in the area, which freeze Crash on contact. Py-Ro has the power over fire-related disasters, though the only one seen is causing volcanoes to erupt. He transforms Crunch into a being of molten rock capable of tossing scorching hot stones at Crash. During the final boss fight, he causes fire to erupt from the grating below Crash. Lo-Lo has the power over wind-related disasters, possibly causing the stormcloud seen in the opening cinematic (although tornadoes are seen in an early level, these are caused by generators created by Neo Cortex rather than Lo-Lo himself). He transforms Crunch into a gigantic genie-like entity capable of electric attacks. During the final boss fight, he causes electric bolts to travel across the floor.

Evil Twins

Victor & Moritz, known collectively as the Evil Twins (voiced by Quinton Flynn, Shinpachi Tsuji, and Setsuji Satō), are a pair of mutated parrots (though they look and behave more like parakeets) formerly owned by Doctor Neo Cortex as a child, and were Cortex's first subjects in his experiment with the (then at the testing phases) Evolvo-Ray. Their current state is the result of this very experiment, and they now plot to destroy Cortex and his dimension.

The Evil Twins were once ordinary parrots owned by Doctor Neo Cortex when he was a child at the Academy of Evil. Cortex was using them as guinea pigs while testing a prototype version of the Evolvo-Ray. However, instead of evolving the parrots, they were transported to the Tenth Dimension, where they were exposed to "severe reverso-radiation", mutating them into the psychokinetic creatures they are now. Years later, upon returning to the Third Dimension, they confront Crash and Cortex and announce their plans to destroy both them and N. Sanity Island. After the Evil Twins play with Cortex's brain, Crash and Cortex chase down the Evil Twins to a totem god, which the Evil Twins bring to life in an attempt to eliminate the two. After Tikimon's defeat Victor announces his plan to suck the goodness out of the Third Dimension, leaving behind a barren wasteland, after which they leave. When Aku Aku and Uka Uka attempt to defeat the Evil Twins themselves, they are defeated and rendered motionless with ease. The Evil Twins visit Cortex's Iceberg Lab personally, and brag about their infinite power, but inadvertently reveal that they are extremely wealthy. They attempt to defeat Crash and Cortex with their vast army of Ants, but they too are destroyed. The Evil Twins decide to flee, but promise that they'll return. They aren't seen again until Crash and Cortex depart for Madame Amberly's Academy of Evil, during which they appear on Cortex's airship and fetch more Ants to kill him. When Cortex and the gang reach Victor and Moritz's stronghold, the Evil Twins give them one last fight and create a giant, multi-phased Deathbot out of their old cage. When the Deathbot is destroyed by the Mecha-Bandicoot, Victor and Moritz flee the wreck. They are last seen walking into Evil Crash's house for an unknown reason. They are eaten off-screen by Evil Crash.

The two twins have differing personalities. Victor appears to be the smarter and more sinister of the duo, and does most of the talking. In his initial entrance, Victor does not give a reason for wanting to destroy the Wumpa Islands, and only wants to play sadistic "mind games" with Doctor Cortex, taking advantage of his weak state after his minions temporarily abandon him. His temperament only becomes more serious as Cortex progresses through the game and endures humiliation after humiliation, with Victor focusing less on making a fool out of him and more on killing him. Moritz is the comic relief half of the twins, frequently desiring food and being generally oblivious, being the one that reveals the secret of their riches to Cortex and Crash. Unlike Victor, Moritz does not really develop as the game progresses, keeping true to his silly demeanor even before being devoured by Evil Crash. The one trait both of the Twins hold is a grudge against Cortex for ruining their lives, going as far as attempting to destroy his dimension to get rid of him.

As a result of being transported to the Tenth Dimension, Victor and Moritz have been mutated, giving them reality-warping powers and warping their minds. They demonstrate these immense powers throughout the game, such as pulling Cortex's brain out of his ear, bringing a totem god to life, and fast-forwarding Cortex (as to avoid having to listen to him rant). They are even able to defeat the combined forces of Aku Aku and Uka Uka (who are supposedly quite powerful when teamed up), suggesting that the Evil Twins are capable of performing extremely devastating deeds.

The Evil Twins are named after the mad scientist Victor Moritz, a fictional character in the 1931 film adaption of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. According to the original lead concept designer of Twinsanity, the Evil Twins were based on his girlfriend's two ornery cockatiels. Concept art suggests that the Evil Twins were originally to have a more reptilian appearance, with visible scales and long tails.

Madame Amberly

Madame Amberly (voiced by Susan Silo and Toshiko Suzuki) is the owner of the Academy of Evil. She is a humongously obese, German-accented woman who requires the use of a series of wires attached to her back to move around. She has known Neo Cortex and his fellow scientists since they were children, and still runs the school as Cortex is an adult. As the owner of an institution that breeds criminals, she revels in taunting her students as a means of emotionally training them, particularly Cortex, whom she labels a cry-baby even in his adult years. Her relationship with Nina Cortex, a student in the school who happens to be Neo's niece, is unknown, as they are never seen interacting with each other. Madame Amberly is additionally capable of manipulating electricity, using this ability to open the pipes on her giant pipe organ and to manipulate a swarm of medium-sized bells in order to attack disobeying students.

When Amberly and Doctor Cortex encounter each other in Crash Twinsanity, Amberly once again taunts Cortex as she did many years before, still able to scare the normally unflappable scientist. When she mistakes Doctor Cortex as a barber, Neo attempts to stand up for himself, but can only whimper his true occupation before Amberly, who still sees Cortex as a "little worm". To remind Cortex who is superior, Amberly battles Cortex as the penultimate boss of the game. Cortex is able to deflect Madame Amberly's bell attack and snap the wires supporting her, causing her to plummet into an unknown green substance. Whether this is a casualty remains to be seen.

Rusty Walrus

Rusty Walrus (voiced by Dwight Schultz) is an overweight chef for N. Gin's battleship. Introduced in Twinsanity only, he mistakes Crash to be his meat for his pot, so he chases after Crash and at the end he gets clammered by the outdoor's door.

Evil Crash

Evil Crash is Crash's evil doppelganger that resides in the Tenth Dimension. First seen in Twinsanity, he appeared as a villain at first (kidnapping Nina and then chasing Cortex) but later ended up saving N. Sanity Island by eating the Evil Twins. He later appeared in Crash Tag Team Racing as an unlockable skin referred to as "Nega Crash". "Evil Crash" is not the same as "Fake Crash".

Spin-Off Characters

Nitros Oxide

Nitros Oxide (voiced by Quinton Flynn, Junpei Takiguchi, and Chafūrin) is a bad-tempered extraterrestrial from the planet Gasmoxia. He claims to be "the fastest racer in the galaxy", and races others to test his skill, usually destroying the losing racer's home planet. Oxide's alien status is due to Naughty Dog exhausting human, animal, machine, and various combinations thereof for previous Crash game bosses.

Though his age is unknown, Nitros Oxide is presumably quite old, judging from a statement he makes during the ending sequence of Crash Team Racing. He has spent most of his racing career travelling the cosmos, racing other aliens, and destroying the homeworlds of those who lose against him. It is not until he reaches Earth that he is handed over his first defeat in his career. Traumatized by this loss, Nitros Oxide fled back to Gasmoxia, and secluded himself from society, only returning to his racing career after years of therapy. However, he soon got caught in an indescribably gruesome unicycle accident, and hasn't been seen much since. He was last seen serving under Emperor Velo XXVII in his Galaxy Circuit.

Nitros Oxide has also served as the final boss in Crash Bash, as well as having a cameos in both Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex and Crash Twinsanity. This makes him the only spin-off character to have an appearance within the main series and also one of only two spin-off characters to appear in more than one game (N. Trance being the other).

Trophy Girls

Ami, Isabella, Liz, and Megumi, also known as the Trophy Girls (Or "Race Queens" in Japan) are a quadrate of female bandicoots. They are seen only in Crash Team Racing, their sole purpose being to deliver trophies to victorious racers.

Rilla Roo

Rilla Roo (voiced by Mitsuru Ogata) is a cross between a gorilla and a kangaroo. His only appearance in the series thus far has been in Crash Bash, in which he fights under Uka Uka's team. He was given very little personality, and very little was revealed about him, even who his creator was. What is known is that he dislikes having his picture taken and that he thinks of himself as a 'closer'.

N. Trance

N. Trance (voiced by Tom Bourdon and Setsuji Satō) is a master of hypnotism from the 5th dimension, who resembles an egg. He debuted in Crash Bandicoot 2: N-Tranced as a lead villain (along with N. Tropy), and briefly worked for Uka Uka to hypnotize Crash and the rest of the bandicoots. This plan failed after he hypnotized Fake Crash by mistake. He later appeared in Crash Nitro Kart as the leader of his own racing team, which consisted of Dingodile, Polar, and Pura, all in which were hypnotized by him. He was originally scheduled to appear in Crash Twinsanity in the Treasure cutscene, but was removed due to framerate problems.

Emperor Velo XXVII

Emperor Velo XXVII (voiced by Steven Jay Blum, Haruo Satō and Kōki Miyata) is the extraterrestrial emperor of an unnamed empire and a fanatic racer and egotist combined. He speaks about himself as "the most accomplished racer in the entire galaxy." However, this is deflected through his defeat against Crash and Cortex, whom he kidnapped in order to prove his strength. A powerful emperor, Velo has thousands of subjects (all of them resembling small goblins) at his beck and call, and a Coliseum at the top of his planet (which resembles his head, reflecting his large ego). His subjects are in constant need of entertainment, and when legends of the driving skills of Crash and his friends reach his ears, he immediately abducts Crash and the others and forces them to race in his Galaxy Circuit, with the threat of the destruction of Earth if they do not race. When Velo's subjects are defeated one by one, Velo reveals himself to be the Galactic Champion and races the Earthlings personally. Upon his defeat, Velo throws a fit, when suddenly he explodes (literally). The Velo the Earthlings raced was just a robotic suit, much to the shock of Velo's subjects. The real Velo, as it turns out, is actually a small goblin, much like his subjects. In Crash's ending, Velo holds up his scepter in triumph in an attempt to win over his subjects, but they are too shocked and let down to say anything. Powerless, Velo relinquishes his empire and whatever influence he had on his subjects. Crash seriously considers this (even thinking about having the planet shaped into his head), but he decides to reject the idea and gives the scepter back to Velo. In Cortex's ending, Velo isn't so willing to give up his power. When he sees Cortex with his scepter, he tackles him in an attempt to get it back but is easily stopped by Tiny, forcing Velo to give them the scepter.

Velo is an individual of sadistic and narcissistic tendencies. He cares only for entertainment and lacks any empathy whatsoever, bursting out at anyone who gets on his bad side and taking pleasure in the hardships of others, most of which are punishments personally inflicted by Velo to subjects who have failed him. He claims that he's the most accomplished racer in the entire galaxy, and that he has never lost a single race. In fact, he is so bent on proving that he is the fastest of them all that he is willing to kidnap seasoned veteran racers (such as Crash and the gang) from different worlds just to do it, usually threatening to destroy their world if they do not race. In a way, he is very similar to Nitros Oxide of Crash Team Racing, an extraterrestrial who also attempted to destroy the world in a race (ironically, Oxide is seen serving under Velo in Crash Nitro Kart).

Zam

Zam (voiced by Billy West) is a dog-like creature who Zem seems to own. He doesn't appear very intelligent and cannot speak English, instead emitting dog-like noises, with the explanation that he might be an extraterrestrial dog. His first and only appearance was as a playable character in Crash Nitro Kart, where he races for Emperor Velo XXVII in the Yellow Team.

Zem

Zem (voiced by Andre Sogliuzzo and Yasuhiro Takato) is a gluttonous creature, as evidenced by the constant slurping and burping noises he makes throughout the races. His first and only appearance was as a playable character in Crash Nitro Kart, where he races for Emperor Velo XXVII in the Yellow Team.

Krunk

Krunk (voiced by Marshall R. Teague and Kōsei Hirota) is an ape-like creature that hails from the planet Terra, where he is the champion of racing. He shows determination in defeating the Earthlings, but in the end, he loses, and is teleported away to parts unknown. He is the first boss faced in the game.

At first, Krunk appears to be an arrogant being, attempting to command Velo to send the Earth racers back to where they came from simply because they looked slow, but when Krunk learns the name of the planet from which the racers came from, he is angered, feeling that Earth is an imitation of his planet (ironically, "Terra" is the Latin word for "Earth"). When Crash's team defeats Krunk, he learns humility, and reveals that Terra is actually a copy of Earth after Crash gives Krunk his yo-yo as a gift from Earth.

Nash

Nash (voiced by Billy West and Mitsuaki Madono) is a cybernetic shark that was engineered to race. Programmed to always keep moving, Nash had never even slept in his entire life before the Earthlings challenged him.

Due to being engineered to never stop moving, Nash can become quite irritable when denied the chance to do so. He is also somewhat a sore loser, demanding his key back when he loses to the teams. Competing against the Bandicoot team, however, he finally falls asleep, thanks to Coco hacking his brain.

Nash also served as a brief inspiration for N. Gin. After the Cortex team beat him, N. Gin suggested that a cybernetic shark would make a great henchman. Cortex, flatly, denies it, on account of Nash having lost the race, and making silly demands.

Norm

Norm (voiced by Andre Sogliuzzo and Tetsuo Goto) is a small alien mime. He likes to read books rather than race. He can split himself up into his regular self and a larger version of himself, who likes to race.

Despite being from the same body, the two versions of Norm are completely different in personality. The smaller Norm (known as Little Norm, or simply Norm) does not like racing, and only does so because Velo tells him to. Being small, Norm does not give the impression of being a formidable opponent (indeed, the reaction of both Earthling teams upon meeting him for the first time is to laugh at him). As a mime, he is completely silent, communicating through gestures.

The larger Norm (known as Big Norm), is the complete opposite of the smaller Norm. Aside from being much bigger, he loves racing and often gets frustrated when the smaller Norm does not co-operate with him. He also actively speaks, and often insults competitors and even his smaller version. Despite this, he is not as sore a loser as the smaller Norm.

Geary

Geary (voiced by Paul Greenberg and Hiroshi Iwasaki) is a robot that hails from the planet Teknee, where he is the champion of racing. He knows every detail about it, and is both Velo's finest racer and "the pinnacle of robotics". However, Geary loses against the Earthlings, and is forced to clean both the trophy and the Coliseum as punishment.

Geary is a robot with a split-personality, and both personalities are obsessed with something. His main personality is obsessed with cleaning, and will clean something at the sight of even one speck of dust. His other personality is fiercely obsessed with winning, bent on proving that only robots can achieve perfection in motion, claiming that he'll demolish anyone who tries to prove otherwise on the racetrack. This aggressive behavior stems from his titles of Velo's finest racer and "the pinnacle of robotics". He frequently fluctuates between personalities as seen in his introductory sequence and during the races.

Ebeneezer Von Clutch

Ebeneezer Von Clutch (voiced by Danny Mann and Hiroshi Ōtake) is a deranged genius cyborg and the owner of Von Clutch's MotorWorld. He has a stereotypical German accent, and is a huge fan of both racing and the Crash franchise (as shown in a scene in Crash Tag Team Racing which breaks the fourth wall and leaves everyone confused). Crash and the rest of the bandicoots helped Von Clutch find his black power gem, the very power source that keeps him alive. It is revealed that Willy Wumpa Cheeks had stolen his Black Heart Gem, and Crash gives it back to Von Clutch, but in the end, Crash ended up knocking the Black Heart Gem back out of him by giving him a friendly pat on the back.

Pasadena O'Possum

Pasadena O'Possum (voiced by Shanelle Workman and Yoshiko Kamei) is Von Clutch's faithful subordinate. She is an experienced racer, and she will race when given the chance. She also has a crush on Crash and is good friends with Coco and Crunch. She seems to have a liking for Crash Bandicoot, which Crash is undecided on (he sometimes looks interested, while other times looks disgusted). She helped Crash and his friends retrieve the black power gem. It's highly likely that she comes from Texas due to the reference to it in her phrases and her accent.

Willie Wumpa Cheeks

Willie Wumpa Cheeks (voiced by Roger L. Jackson and Masato Funaki) is the Wumpa Whip salesman at Von Clutch's MotorWorld. He is revealed to be the one who stole Von Clutch's Black Power Gem and is soon liquified by Doctor Cortex's machine.

Chick Gizzard Lips

Chick Gizzard Lips (voiced by Quinton Flynn and Keiichi Takahashi) is a veteran sportscaster, and is often seen working alongside his co-worker, Stew. He is the more serious of the pair, and tries to ignore Stew's various antics. Chick, along with Willie Wumpa Cheeks, announces the various racing hubs throughout the game.

Stew

Stew (voiced by Duane R. Shepard Jr. and Keiji Himeno) is Chick's partner, who speaks with high tension. He is the comic relief of the duo, and frequently changes his hairdo throughout the game. He is also assumed to have a very large wife (as revealed in a mission for unlocking one of Crash's cars).

Park Drones

The Park Drones (voiced by Bill Farmer, Chris Coppola, Charles Dennis, Jess Harnell, Roger L. Jackson, Takaya Kuroda, Kazuhiro Ansai, Yasumichi Kushita, and others) are employees of the Von Clutch's MotorWorld amusement enterprise owned by Ebeneezer Von Clutch. They usually act as vendors, mechanics, or mascots. They seem to be irritated with their job, usually due to low wages, their attire, or abuse. To escape their fate, these Park Drones try to sell Power Crystals, even going as far as stealing one from Von Clutch to sell it for a profit.

The Viscount

The Viscount is an extremely wealthy Tasmanian devil. He swindles Crash and his friends into finding the Super Big Power Crystal for him in Crash, Boom, Bang!
