Kshar Sutra is sanskrit word. It is taken from charka samhita, which is ayurveda book, written hundreds or might be thousands years ago by Indian Surgeon susrut. In the word Kshar Sutra, Kshar means caustic and Sutra means threads. This tread is coated with kshar (Caustic) which is obtained by burning natural plants and getting it extract. This process is repeated again and again and let them dry. This method was used in ancient India for treatment of fistula in ano (hemorrhoids) patients. This thread is passed to canal of fistulous track of Fistula and tied at external opening. This thread will be changed on weekly basis. Slowly-slowly all fistulous track would be healed and patients can rid of this fistula.
In modern India, it was reinvented by Late Dr. P.J. Deshpande, in association with his team of doctors like Dr. S.R. Gupta etc. as Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi (India).
Team of doctors did extensive research work on result of Kshar-Sutra (medicated thread) on more that 10000+ patients in approximately 10 years. They keep track record of all patients and found extremely wonderful results. There was no recurrence rate of disease; also there was no need of hospitalization of patients. So they found this method is very economical and very much effective in comparison to existing method of modern surgery where patients need to be hospitalized and have to spend much money. Also through this therapy there is always a danger of recurrence of disease.
Due to effectiveness of this therapy, it has been recognized by W.H.O.(World Health Organization) also Ministry of Health (Govt. of India) has also approved to open a kshar- sutra clinic in all government hospitals across all over India.
