WikiProject NASCAR is a project to better organize information in articles related to NASCAR. This page and its subpages contain suggestions as how to do so; it is hoped that this project will help to focus the efforts of other Wikipedians. If you would like to help, please see the To-do list, inquire on the talk page, or better yet, look around, and edit as you see fit. (This project, like everything else on the Misplaced Pages, is what everyone makes of it.)

Goals

  • Create standards of quality for NASCAR-related articles.
  • Create and standardize articles for NASCAR drivers, teams, tracks and series
  • Better organize all NASCAR-related articles
  • Expand upon existing NASCAR-related articles
  • Define areas requiring attention of above mentioned goals.

Track Pages

All tracks that run a NASCAR race should include the {{NASCAR_track}} template at the top, with information filled in, as appropriate. (see details below)


Underneath the level 2 heading External Links, the following links should be present:

  • Track Official Site (where Track is the full title of the track)
  • Track Page on NASCAR.com (where Track is the full title of the track, and NASCAR.com get's its own link)
  • Satellite image from Google Maps (where Google maps is link)(if and only if hi-res map is available)
  • If available, use the template {{Mapit-US-hoodscale|29.18785|-81.06583}}


All tracks that host a Nextel Cup, Busch, or Craftsman Truck Series race should have the apropriate template(s) added. (see below)


All tracks that run a NASCAR race should have the following categories, in order:

Race Pages

All race pages should include the {{NASCAR race infobox}} infobox at the top. (see details below)

After the info box pages should continue:

 The RACE is a NASCAR Series Name stock car race held at (the) Race Track in City, State.

where

  • RACE is the full formal name of the race
  • Series Name is a wiki link to the correct series
  • Race Track is a wiki link to the formal name of the track
  • City is a wiki link to the city of the track
  • State is a wiki link to the state of the track

A list of past winners should be included, in reverse chronological order.

At the bottom of the page, the template {{NASCAR next race}} should be present.

If a Nextel Cup race, should have Category:NASCAR Nextel Cup races in the article.

If a Busch Series race, should have Category:NASCAR Busch Series races in the article.

Driver Pages

All NASCAR drivers should have Category:NASCAR drivers|Last Name, First Name in the article, where the name is filled in, last name first...

NASCAR current driver

Template:NASCAR current driver All drivers currently running in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup series should have the {{NASCAR current driver}} on their page. (Example taken from Rusty Wallace.) Information of note: whenever the info box is edited, the Updated_On field should also be updated, to assist in tabulation of statistics. This date must be wikilinked, in order for the wiki system to recgonize it as a date.
