Youkai (妖怪) are class of creatures in Japanese folklore ranging from the evil Oni to the mischevious Kitsune. Youkai technically means "apparition" or "spirit", but some translations also label them "demons".

Some stories also tell of youkai breeding with humans to produce "hanyou", or half demons.
