UnrealIRCd is an open source IRC daemon based off of DALnet's DreamForge IRCd.. Since development started on UnrealIRCd, around May 1999, many new features have been added, modified, some of which include advanced security features and bug fixes.

According to SearchIRC's statistics, UnrealIRCd is used on the largest number of servers. The largest IRC networks, however, do not use it because they have their own IRCd's which they maintain themselves, so it may not necessarily be the IRC daemon with the largest number of users.
