For my response to accusations made in User talk:Catherineyronwode/ANI-proposal, see User:Hrafn/ANI Response. I would note that the ANI consensus was that these (often factually inaccurate) accusations had no basis in policy. |
“ | Sorry ... but the recent conflict was turning me into somebody I didn't particularly like. It was abrading away both my civility and my effectiveness as an editor. The only way to stop the downward slide was to make a clean break and say "not my problem any more" -- because if I allowed myself to care, I'd just get mad again & the downward slide would continue. | ” |

I would note on departing that as of August 2008 there were 140,000 articles tagged as unreferenced on wikipedia (with who knows how many more sitting in obscure backwaters untagged) and, if the edit history of Template:WUAC Invite is to be believed, this figure is growing. WP:WUAC provides more detailed information. Category:Articles lacking sources demonstrates that, as of the time this was written (05:13, 18 September 2008 (UTC)) final cleanup is still ongoing on articles tagged as unreferenced from July 2006 — over two years ago. This would appear to suggest that the problem has reached epidemic proportions. I will therefore leave with a couple of suggestions:
- A maintenance bot to tag articles lacking inline citations but with a references section with a {{nofootnotes}} template, add a {{Reflist}} template to articles with inline citations, but lacking {{Reflist}} or equivalent, and tag articles lacking both inline citations and a references section with a {{unreferenced}} template.
- A bot to pro forma WP:PROD articles that have been templated as unreferenced for more than a year. This may appear harsh, but if nobody can be bothered to provide references for articles or even monitor them sufficiently to remove a prod-template (thus indicating that it's likewise unlikely that half-baked WP:OR or even outright vandalism will be removed), then why should we care if they're deleted?
